Hi there,

DD (nearly 2) just started nursery and has expectedly got a cough/cold.

Last night she went to sleep at 10, up again at midnight, after trying lots of things I gave her calpol and she was asleep by 1. Slept (mostly, a couple of short wakes that I don't really count) until 7. Screaming and miserable by 8 so I gave her some more calpol and put her back to bed.

She's still asleep at 11.30. She seems far more comfortable than she did overnight. Do I leave her asleep? Can't imagine I'll be able to get her to bed at anything approaching reasonable tonight, so I'm wondering if letting her sleep too long now will mean less sleep in the long run.

Same situation with my 11 month old today. He didn't go to sleep until 10 last night and woke up at 6. I managed to get him back to sleep at 8 and now he is still asleep.
I always sleep a lot with a cold so I'm leaving him to it. Poor babies Sad

It must be so rubbish for them not understanding why they feel this way!

Feel like a bit of an idiot because I'm getting nothing done because I don't want to leave her. She was so upset before she went back to sleep so I don't want her to wake up alone. I didn't think she'd sleep this long! She'd normally be going down for her nap soon..... god knows what I'll do with her this afternoon!

Leave to sleep ..... when I'm sick I just went to sleep lol

Routine may go out the window for a few days or sleep may just become more :-)

I'm a nursery nurse and if children got sick at nursery we would always try to get them to sleep while waiting for the parents as it made them more comfortable
