My 3 month old boy sleeps through the night every night about 12 hours and even then I have to wake him up , I've stopped waking him up for feeds as he dosent even end up taking them as he's half asleep , is this healthy ? He drinks full bottles all during the day and dosent barely have any naps just concerned about him missing so many feeds.

Is he gaining weight? Is your Heakth Visitor happy with his progress?

ILoveHumanity · 08/09/2018 01:37

You are one lucky mummy :). Just sayin

Hope all is well. Check the weight gain and amount of wet nappies.

Is the baby Breast or bottle fed? Bottle fed babies do sleep through

shartsi · 08/09/2018 10:03

My eldest DD slept through for 12 hours from 6 weeks. Count yourself very lucky. If there was something wrong then baby would look unwell, so enjoy it! My subsequent children were nightmare sleepers. My 2.5 year old still wakes up 3 times a night!

Ellapaella · 08/09/2018 10:09

My third child was like this. He didn't sleep much at all during the day but slept through overnight. I always felt I couldn't say anything about it to friends as they were having tough times with their babies not sleeping!
I know it's what everyone thinks they want but actually I preferred the sleeping habits of my elder two who would wake up a couple of times in the night for a feed but have nice long naps in the day as well. The lack of daytime naps with number 3 was tricky as it meant I couldn't really get anything done during the day.
I breast fed by the way - DH would give an occasional bottle to help out but predominantly all of mine were breastfed and all had very different sleeping and feeding habits.

Yeah his weight is fine !

Yeah both of mine slept through from 6 weeks. Think it was just genetics or something as I never did anything special!

Strawberrybelly · 08/09/2018 10:15

Shhhh you must never ever say it out loud. I may have boasted slightly about Dd's amazing sleep habits and then it went to shit and she didnt sleep for 2 years.

Sisgal · 08/09/2018 10:15

Yes this is fine! Enjoy xx

steppemum · 08/09/2018 10:16

well, my bf baby did almost this from 5 weeks. Slept 7-7, but woke for one feed at 10pm.

Honestly if I had been on mn then I would have been panicking, waking him up, the number of times I have read that letting them sleep all night is bad for them and bad for your milk supply at such an early age.

well, I didn't have mn, and he was happy and I had so much milk I was overflowing and I had sleep! He fed well during the day, and just didn't need any more. He was big, so presumably had a bigger stomach, but still.

tenbob · 08/09/2018 10:17

Mine slept through from 8 weeks but then all hell broke loose at the 4 month sleep regression, so enjoy it because it might not last

thelionsden · 08/09/2018 10:17

It’s ok. Baby will be up far more when the for month sleep regression hits

AornisHades · 08/09/2018 10:17

I slept 12 hours a night at that age. I'm still a very deep sleeper. It's fine if he's happy and growing well.

raininthenightgarden · 08/09/2018 10:18

Mine did this, slept through almost immediately. Then a rough patch 4-5 months, then fine again and now 18 months. Apart from when ill he does 11-12 hours a night. It's good!

steppemum · 08/09/2018 10:26

and non of mine did 4 month sleep regression, it doesn't always happen, so don't worry!

HavelockVetinari · 08/09/2018 11:01

I HATE YOU! Not really yes really

DS still wakes at least twice a night at 14 months, for the first 4 months he woke every 45 mins and thereafter at least 4 times till he hit 10 months.

I'm so jealous I could spit! You now have a duty to luxuriate in as much sleep as possible on behalf of the rest of us who are zombified through tiredness! You've won the baby lottery, enjoy it! Grin

Catheroooo · 08/09/2018 19:12

Lol at all the jealous comments.

First rule of mumsnet, never mention your baby sleeps through. Second rule, never mention controlled crying.

Catspyjamazzzz · 08/09/2018 19:20

Statistically there must be some babies who sleep really well. You have him.

I had a friend whose baby slept through from birth. She did go through sleep regression - she found that hard to cope with Grin

GeorgeTheHippo · 08/09/2018 19:22

He's fine. Mine did this, it's completely normal for some babies. Make sure he gets the best food you can give him and stop worrying. If he's growing he's fine.

Hanconelly · 24/09/2018 05:51

Thanks for all your help and advice ! I know you should never say it but he's coming up 4 months now and he's the most chilled out baby ever never cries unles you really push him to it and just sleeps 12-14 hours every night 😭 Right through and seems to be pleasant during the day just smiles chats and plays 😂

Hi there,

My LO is the same, started doing 11-12 hours a night around 11 weeks. She’s 7 months now. Aren’t we lucky! She’s bottle fed and is a big baby. 9 lbs at birth. I think when they’re bigger it helps with longer sleeps. I asked my health visitor was it ok to let her sleep 12 hours when she was only 11 weeks. She said it’s fine as long as she is taking 2 oz per pound of body weight in her waking hours and was steadily gaining weight. So far so good! Slight regression as in waking up at 4 am and not settling for an hour at 4 months but maybe lasted a week or so at most. Hope your LO continues to be a great sleeper too
