Little one has just turned 4 months and has moved into his own room. He's too big for his Moses basket and was sleeping in a travel cot in our room (his cot bed is too big to move from room to room) but as he star fishes he was waking himself up hitting his arms on the side so I decided to move him despite the advice of HV. He loves it in there, he has all the room in the world!

The problem here is me! I'm a natural born worrier and a first time mum! As daft as it sounds I feel a bit scared and unnerved by moving him - and I don't know why! I know he can't be in my room forever but as it's all we've known it doesn't feel right him being in there. I'm not moving him back just for my benefit as it was always going to happen and I've already done it so why go backwards. And I know to some mums this won't have/won't be a big deal but I was just after some tips or advice to help me deal with this I'm not sleeping too well!

Can you sleep in his room for a while? WE also had a big DS who went into his room at 4 mo BUT there's a single bed in there and one of us slept in there each night.

And it wouldn't be for your benefit. 4 mo is the peak time for SIDS.

I understand the not sleeping well thing- I still often don't at 14.5 mo

4 mo is the peak time for SIDS.

That is not the case. SIDS peaks between 7 and 10 weeks. The numbers drop down after week 14 and again (very significantly) after week 16 (the graph in figure 1 provides a useful view):

There is also an emerging view that the recommendation to room share until 6 months is overconservative and may need to be reviewed in the light of the most recent research:

I personally always focused on (1) back sleeping (even though DD had reflux and would have been more comfortable on her tummy) and (2) having a clear cot (absolutely no staffed animals or cot bumpers). However I was comfortable moving DD into a separate room at 12 weeks after considering all the actual research I read.
