Sooo I no hes only 5 days old but has anyone experienced this and got advice. My lo is fornula fed but was brest fed for first 3 days. My milk is now drying up. When will i stop smelling of milk? My lo keeps routing abd cant settle on me especially in the evenings and night feed. Secondly when we go to bed we do dim lights and white noise but however tired he is he just wakes up up and can take over an hour to go to sleep. By which time he is nearly ready to wake up for another feed. I no hes only little but does anyone else have this problem? I don't no if its coz its a different room all if a sudden. Any ideas on the above gratefully received xx

Baby's root because that's what they do. They will do it to whoever is holding them, if they're hungry. It's also extremely common for newborns to not settle well in the evenings, it's often referred to as the witching hour.

Also, newborns kind of dictate their own sleeping schedule. You just have to go with the flow. A nap can be 15 minutes long at this point.

Congratulations on your baby.

Yes you will stop smelling of milk. It's completely normal and natural for him to root on you, or whoever is holding him so don't expect it to stop completely when your milk dries up, though he may settle better on you when he can't smell it and his instincts don't kick in as much if that makes sense.

It takes weeks for babies to get night and day sorted. As mileyk90 says you've just gotta go with it. In the early days it's sometimes easier if one person settles the baby while the other sleeps. It can feel like this stage lasts forever but it really doesn't and most babies know day from night after just a few weeks. Though they'll still wake up for many feeds at night!

When you go to bed, is that when you put him in the crib/Moses basket? It's very early days and it took a little while for my DD to stay asleep when put down - they are used to being inside you in a warm small space!

I agree that you need to take shifts so that you can at least get some sleep. I mostly breastfeed, but we give one bottle at night so DH could take a turn. At that very early stage, I'd go to bed early, straight after a feed, and he'd stay up with her sleeping on him in the living room until it was time for her next feed, and then give her the bottle.
