HELP! Is it normal for babies to sleep ALL DAY LONG??

I'm wondering if she might be ill?

My dd is 11 weeks old and usually sleeps all night (I know, lucky lucky!) Well, last night she went to sleep at about 9pm and is still sleeping now at 2pm the next day... she's woken up for brief feeds a few times, probably about 5 in total, and one big poo. She normally feeds much more than this though and I've had to pump twice today because my boobs are about to pop.

Normally she's awake all day and feeding like crazy to stock up for her night sleep.

But she's been quite grouchy over the last few days and I'm wondering if she might have caught something? Is she sleeping it off maybe? Is this normal for young babies? Should I be worried??

Thanks for any advice

did she have her jabs? mine always do this after their vacs

giveadogabone · 05/06/2007 14:27

She had them 2 weeks ago and she had a temperature for 2 days afterwards. Could they still be affecting her now do you think?

not after 2 weeks i'd say.

could it be the heat? tis very warm here today and everyone is tired and grouchy.

or maybe just a mild bug that she's fighting

bugger - just took her temp and she's got a mild fever. That explains it then. So tell me (paranoid 1st time mum) at what point do you worry about this sort of thing and take the baby to the docs? I suppose babies must catch all sorts of little things here and there. She's just woken up and she's quite smiley although not hungry.

sounds like a virus or something. She's eating normally though? does she feel hot?

giveadogabone · 05/06/2007 14:36

She is eating but not nearly as much as normally. She does feel a bit hot. Have stripped her down to her babygro.

Perhaps I'll try some Calpol and see how she responds. She's just refused my breast which isn't like her at all!

i donj't bring mine to the docs unless they're dead on their feet so i'm the wrong person to ask.

not counting vacs they've been twice each, dd is 2.5 and ds is 10 months

would defo monitor her temperature etc. and call the quacks if you feel concerned. they can get ill alarmingly quickly imho. hth.

giveadogabone · 05/06/2007 16:08

Thanks for the advice, I've just taken her to the docs (paranoid!) and her temp was normal - he couldn't find anything wrong with her except for her crying - so we're back home now and I'll keep an eye on her. She's definitely not right imo.
