You have been in bed since 7:15... you are not upset or hurting or bleeding or even crying that much... you normally go to sleep in ten minutes....
So why the hell now at 8:50 are you still awake!!!! Kicking seven shades out of the end of your cot will not make me get you out of bed. Having a brief whinge every ten minutes will not make me get you out of bed. Lobbing all your teddies on the floor then moaning for them back will not make me get you out of bed. In fact only if you are on fire or bleeding will I get you out of bed.
Your day has been no different today than any other - so just go to sleep ffs!!! You will wake up at 7am a grumpy little arsehole because you wouldn’t go to sleep!! You are two - you do not need anything - you have had this routine every night for over a year. Just fucking go to sleep!! Mummy needs just an hour alone to enjoy this cuppa and blow dry her hair!
If you were awake sobbing I could understand it - if you just laid there quietly chilling that would also be ok. But you’re just checking in with something every ten minutes.
Mummy is now staying downstairs!!

I understand the feeling of exasperation but for some reason your usually good sleeper needs your attention tonight.

He'll probably sleep as usual tomorrow night so you can blow-dry your hair then.

My 4 weeks old baby sleeps brilliantly all day, morning till about 8ish on the night,
As soon as it gets to about 9/10ish all she does is cry.
I can’t help but feel really frustrated and anything I try doesn’t work.

How do I get her into a night time routine and getting her to understand the difference??

INeedNewShoes · 22/08/2018 23:44

Honey 4 week olds are programmed to feed a lot at night so your baby may be crying for a feed or just a cuddle. It will get better in time but you are a few weeks away from your baby naturally starting to sleep more at night.

Honey1994 · 22/08/2018 23:49

Is that what it is, do they usually start sleeping well from about 6 weeks??

It's every single night and I'm so tired I just want a decent rest when it's time to sleep but I'm always awake tackling her to sleep,
I'm not sure if she don't like her side sleeping crib because as soon as I put her down she wakes back up again cryingSad

My youngest is 3 and still gets me up in the night!!!!!!

Bananarama12 · 22/08/2018 23:57

I would've got him out given him some food, a drink etc and tried again in an hour personally. Then go in and lay him down and shush him, stroke his head if he could be settle. Babies aren't robots!

crazycatlady5 · 23/08/2018 08:34

@Honey1994 look up the 4th trimester. It’s very very natural for newborns to want to stay near their caregiver especially their mother - she has been inside you for 9 months and had your warmth, smell and heartbeat plus food on tap. She’s still learning to be a little person. I couldn’t put my daughter down much at all until she was a few months old. Do you have a sleepyhead? They are a bit expensive but worth their weight in gold for making babies feel snug and secure.

He wasn’t upset or sad he was being a buggerlugs!! Kicking the crap out of his cot because he likes the noise and lobbing his blanket and ted out of the cot then shouting for them back is being a lil bugger!

He’s 2 - if I went in and stroked his head he’d never go to sleep - he cannot have anyone in there or he’d love the attention and just be awake!

He slept all night but as predicted we have now hit the grumpy wall.

I needed a vent and now it’s done. I’m sure tonight will be as normal.
