Sleep training

My LB is 4 months this week and i would like some advice on sleep training. He generally sleeps from 9 until 7am with the occasional night feed. The only issue is getting him to sleep in the first place. Even for naps my lo has to be rocked either in the pram or car seat for a while before he settles. He will cry and moan about this too. I see other baby’s that fall asleep in the arms of their mothers or playing on a playmat. My lo has never done that. He has cmpa and before he was diagnosed settling him was a nightmare with every night resulting in drives around the town to get him to sleep. So now I figure he has got used to this?

Will he grow out of this? Or will I have to keep swaying the car seat for months on end (I have blisters already!)

Any advice is appreciated. X

He is far too little and it’s totally natural for babies to want help falling asleep. If you want to encourage him to fall asleep on his own you could try a dummy but I’m afraid what you’re doing is totally normal!

He might be overtired at the point you’re trying to get him to sleep.
What times are his naps?

Have a look at CC methods OP. Many will say he's too young and give stats on cortisone levels. There is much debate about this and will continue to be. To find supporters I'd look through old threads on the same topic to save being attacked on here!

NB I did CC with 5 nearly 6 month old. 3-5 min intervals, it took 3 days and we never looked back but I felt I couldn't do it when DS was 3 it 4 months. Soon changed my mind when I became a candidate for a mental institution due to lack of sleep 2 months later!

It is totally normal for babies to need parental help to fall asleep and during the night. This has worked for hundreds of thousands of years and in the last 1-200 hundred years someone invented ‘sleep training’ 🙄 you can’t train a baby not to need you, you’re just training them to stop crying for you. Totally different thing. Helping children feel safe and secure is a 24 hours job not 7am-7pm. It can be hard but they are not small for very long. Cuddle/rock your baby, it’s all they know and all they need x
