Over tired baby

Hi, any advice on how to introduce regular napping to minimise risk of becoming overtired? My 7wo barely naps during the day, she becomes fussy and overtired then it gets past point of settling to sleep. She will currently only really nap on me during the day usually after a feed but this isn't frequent. If i try to put her down when asleep she wakes up. I try to put her
down to nap before she is asleep but she won't settle, she seems to hate being laid down flat. We have a bath on an evening with hope or then settling down but again it takes hours and she won't settle appearing overtired. We currently need to rock or breastfeed her to sleep.

It all soinds normal OP. Lower your expectations of what you can achieve in a day. Record some good telly programmes and let baby sleep on you..be forear.ed witha cuppa and snacls and try to enjoy it. It wont last forever youll miss it one day..or try a sling baby can nap and you can get bits done. I do symlathise as mine was the same. I found embracing it made us bith happier.

Good luck

should add... im fine with the napping on me, its lovely in fact but just want to check if i could be doing anything else to increase napping as she seems to not have many at all even on me. we have a sling and we use white noise

Will she sleep in a sling or in the pram?

rnicholson1990 · 20/08/2018 02:09

hi thanks for your reply, ill continue enjoying the cuddles Smile although she doesn't tend to nap on me as frequently or at least as often as they say babies should be napping for her age, that was my worry as in is she being over stimulated, i guess they are all so different.
She is always in my arms as she doesnt like being laid down unless its to have tummy time or lay on her play mat with me for short periods, which is all good, we have a sling however we arent using this much she isnt very keen, i think your right about making most of relaxing time Smile

hi, she isn't too keen on the sling although its new so we will keep trying it for short periods to get her used to it, i was thinking of renting a wrap to try from the sling library as ive heard they are abit closer to body so might be better for napping. Its intermittent with pram, she will get upset if i lay her in her pram, she will sometimes settle with the motion but usually just gets upset, or will be wide awake looking at surroundings so doesnt tend to have the soothing effect lol. Car tends to help her nod off but then taking her out of seat she wakes instantly

I think a sling is better than a carrier if that's what you mean. I know Op feel like my baby doesnt nap at all x

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 20/08/2018 02:21

Yes enjoy it because when they walk and talk its fun But there are no sky box sets fir you x

rnicholson1990 · 20/08/2018 02:33

Yeah that's what i mean, the fabric ones you tie, i currently have a baby bjorn fabric carrier so its not quite same.
Maybe our babies are just not nappers Grin

My son is the same, he hates lying flat during the day because he can’t look around (nosey bugger!) so he’s got a rocking chair that lies him on an incline. Perhaps that would be ok for DD?

darceybussell · 20/08/2018 02:37

My baby is a similar age and I'm having a similar problem. Especially at about mid morning I know he's tired but I'm struggling to force him to nap, then usually I'll miss the window and he will cry as he's overtired!

We have a close Caboo light which makes him go to sleep in about 3 minutes flat so if I know he needs to nap and he's not playing ball I stick him in there!

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 20/08/2018 16:22

Awwwwww I so understand where you are coming from.

I noticed my DD sleeps really soundly in her carrier when we go for walks. So that’s what I do Grin I just walk around like a numpty loitering around the town centre enjoying her sleeping!

Otherwise she takes loads of rocking or gallons of BFing... she’s light sensitive mind you so I put a little summer hat on her to block the light out for her a bit, even do this in the house... not sure if that helps!

Btw, is she sicky? Wondering if it’s reflux - my DD has it... and I think it’s part of the reason she doesn’t like to sleep lying down x
