4 month old thrashing legs around in the night!

My 4 month old little boy has been a pretty good sleeper until the past two weeks - previously doing 7/8 hour stretches. It was bliss... but for the past fortnight he's been waking up multiple times a night thrashing his legs and lower body against the mattress until he's completely awake!

He's obviously struggling with something but I don't know what... I thought gas but bicycling his legs etc just seems to upset him more! I end up putting him on the boob just to calm him down but it's happening several times a night and I'm shattered...

Is it gas? A phase? A new dance move?! Any advice hugely appreciated.

My dd has started doing this too, and when she is on her changing mat Hmm. Does it so hard you can hear her through the floorboards when she is upstairs!

I Am of the opinion it is just a phase though, another couple of mums at our baby groups have said their dc did it too. But no idea why!

Getting ready to crawl.

Yes my DD does this!

We've started putting a rolled up blanket under her legs which muffled some of the sound (her legs aren't high or anything).

Could never figure out why she does it but drives us mad at 2am Grin

8 month DS likes to sleep with his legs on the covers just like my DH but has kicked his legs for months.
Still does it even though he's crawling. I'm still hoping he grows out of it.

The constant tossing and turning is worse than his kicking though. Sleeps with his back arched Hmm
