holiday abroad sleep?

so we’re going on our first holiday abroad in a few weeks, me DH and DD who turns 2 shortly after we return. DD seems to thrive on routine and she naps most days from 12pm for 1-2 hours in her cot at home or at nursery 2 days a week. and goes to bed at 7:30 sleeping through with a 6am wake up. but I’m just a bit concerned about napping whilst on holiday as she sleeps in her cot at home or at nursery. can’t imagine her ever falling asleep in her buggy or on a sun lounger unless she was absolutely wiped out! in an ideal world i’d be able to get her to sleep in buggy and keep her up later at night so we can enjoy our evenings on holiday (and maybe even sleep in later then 6am? Grin (all inclusive resort) so please can anybody share their experiences and tips of going on holiday with a routine driven kid??

I think this is one of the only drawbacks to a baby who loves/thrives on routine. But you may be surprised. Lo's tend to do that!
I've just returned from 2 weeks away for lo's first holiday. He slept really well. Either on lounger or in buggy, so we were lucky. A couple of times me and my husband would take it in turns to go to the room for a nap with him. This would end up being an epic 3 hour'er.
I did make a point of using pram for naps before we went though.
At night after dinner my dh would take baby for a walk while I endured mini disco with eldest. (Gin was consumed!) Again he would sleep in his pram whilst we had a drink.
Is it too late to try naps in the pram? Might be worth a try.
My advice is, go with the flow. Your LO will be more tired than normal if in a hotter country and swimming etc. He is much younger than yours though.
Good luck.

Our 4 were very much into routine.
We used to take it in turns to do naptimes after lunch in the room/apartment and we liked to get them out of the sun. I always let them sleep as long as they needed and naps were often 3 hours we would swap half way if one of us got bored.
I would then let them stay up with us later and enjoy the holiday.

A lot depends on your LO and her temper/ability to adjust. DD is 18 months, we have been on a few foreign holidays and I have seen dozens (if not hundreds) of babies happily sleeping in their buggies in the evening during dinner.

My DD, however, would have none of that (she screams blue murder when she is tired and wants to go to bed) so we have been hiring a babysitter/hotel nanny every single evening. Even when DD was young, I knew she would reliably sleep until her dream feed. We have pretty much always had the evenings to ourselves after she settled for the night.

We do get DD to nap in the buggy during the day. She is not thrilled but she can live with it. However, her buggy naps never last longer than one hour so we try and give her cot naps whenever we can.
