Night Terrors

Wondering if anyone has any experience with night terrors?
My little boy has been having them since around 7 months old! But as he's getting older, they're getting worse! He screams to the point I worry the police are going to be called, he is glass eyed, he doesn't recognise us, hits out, throws everything around him like he's defending himself, then when he wakes up, he's frightened and clings on to us. These last anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours! We know they're usually triggered based by temperature, over-tiredness or stress (I.e. been told off close to bedtime for something).
I've taken him to the doctors who said 'sorry, never had to address this before, don't know how to help you'!
Its heartbreaking to see him so distressed and I end up just crying with him.
I'm also newly pregnant, so mainly for him, but also the family as a whole.. has anyone got any advice at all?

If I was you I would go see another Gp about it. My ds had this when he was younger. at 13 still suffers with sleep problems now. We got sent away with no help a few times feeling like it was our fault . Mention Camhs to the doctor see if you can get refferd to them. They help parents and children with alot of dif needs but also they might be able to point you in the best direction.. If the doctors are no help. phone Camhs yourself and see if they can help.
I have heard if there is a pattern in the time the night terrors start. to wake the child up 20 mins or so before a episode to break the cycle. Don't know how effective it is tho.
