Any tips on getting 6 week old to sleep on his back

Hi all,

Me and DH are having a terrible time with sleep. We are both exhausted as ourLO will only sleep on his tummy WITH his nursing pillow or cosleeps with me. He has colic and infant dyschezia. Both sleep options are not ideal as he needs close supervision seeping on his pillow and, with this hot weather I'm terrified he will overheat sleeping with me.

We got a special rocker which allows him to sleep on his back but in a slightly upright position, I've made several different attempts an tactics to get him to sleep in it but to no avail.

Anyone have any tips? I'm at my wits end

Will he sleep on his side maybe? My eldest did this for a while as she has glue ear and struggled with snoring and shuffling on her back.

My other 2 were tummy sleepers and I just let them....but I had no concerns about them

He will sleep on his side for about 10mins before waking up.

I wouldn't mind him sleeping on his tummy but he will only do so on his nursing pillow, which is a massive suffocation risk. I have to watch him like a hawk. It's so frustrating.

Does he or you have any risk factors for bedsharing?

Let the baby sleep how he is most comfy. Years ago all babies were put on their tummies. As long as they can move head from side to side, that's fine. I don't know what a nursing pillow is, presumably something you hold in your arm for him to lay on while you're feeding. It should be OK under his tummy, might even help but not under his head. Bless. I'm feeling all broody now - too old though :-).

He will not overheat cosleeping - it’s natural for babies to sleep next to their mothers as they regulate the babies body temperature. Is he breastfed? If so you’re already on the ‘safe’ list of bedsharing. Mine wouldn’t sleep on her back ever, she slept on her side, now at 19 months she sleeps all over the shop - even with her bum in the air Grin he’ll grow out of it x
