Tips for introducing a "routine" 7 weeks old

I know my Dd is too young for a routine as such but she seems to be settling into one at night that Im really struggling with. She feeds (BF) on and off till about midnight, sleeps till between 4 and 5, has another feed then normally wakes up about 7am then she just wont settle. She chatters and kicks away so i cant get back to sleep then by about 10 shes fast asleep again, on some days this is ok because I can nap when she does but most of the time Im going out or I have things to do.

I was thinking of bathing her, baby massage, a feed and up to bed around 8.30pm where its dark and quiet upstairs (and use monitors). Then im hoping she'll begin to understand day and night more and begin to sleep abit longer...

Anyone any tips? Does this sound like a good plan or am I setting myself up for disappointment lol?
i know she cant follow a strict routine/times but Im desperate for some sort of order!

I mean this in the nicest way possible but that is fantastic sleep for a 7 week old BF baby. I’d have killed for that!

It’s totally normal for bedtime to be late for a newborn, they are still figuring out night and day.

I know lack of sleep is hard, believe me, but what if she’s going to bed at 12 and only waking once untill 7am that is really good. You can try and earlier bed time with dim lights etc but I think they all figure it out themselves eventually and as she gets older bed time will edge forward.

Rest when you can, take help and make life as easy as you can for yourself. It’s early days and could change at any time!

Congrats💗

At 7 weeks what you've got is amazing! She's far too young for any other sort of routine - count your blessings.

Thank you. I know its good, but a few people have said she should be sleeping through now!

No. She should still be inside you.

Read up on the fourth trimester and follow her lead.

Ignore the bollocks about sleeping though.

Not many babies sleep through at 7 weeks. Their stomachs are still tiny and need food at regular intervals. What she's doing is amazing sleep for a 7 week old sometimes my 16 month old sleeps worse

rebelrosie12 · 01/08/2018 18:57

That sounds great. Keep doing what you're doing.

Sleeping through at 7 weeks 😂 my 19 month old has slept through 5 times in her life. People are mental about baby sleep! You’ve got it good mama x

I remember just sitting and deciding on a routine for DD as a baby then just starting it and pushing through.

It was mainly for bedtime though.

From 5 I did "quiet time". No TV on or anything, just quiet chill.

Then have her a bath around 6 then a final feed at around 7 before lying her down.

I think that not many 7 week old babies sleep though, OP. It takes time..

Pastaagain78 · 01/08/2018 19:09

7 week old babies do not sleep through. What you have is really good going. Don’t worry about it.

kernowsailor · 01/08/2018 19:23

Your baby sleeps better than my nearly 6 month old 😂

NapQueen · 01/08/2018 19:26

The night time is amazing!

All I will say is waking at 7am and nap at 10am sounds like too long a gap for a 7wo. I used a routine (dc both very amenable to it otherwise i wouldnt have), and at that age id rigidly put them down again 1.5h after waking. Whatever time they woke.

muststoplurking · 01/08/2018 19:28

Congratulations on getting to 7 weeks, newborns are tough! Having said that, I agree that your baby sleeps very well for such a little baby. It's difficult but will get easier and things will fall into place soon enough, maybe revisit this at around 12-15 weeks old?
