Ds2 is nearly 6 months, he is active now sitting up, rolling , reaching for things rocking on his belly. Can this affect his sleep? He is alwaysmoving in his cot at night, getting his feet caught in the bars, arms, turning horizontally, rolling from his back to his side to his front and getting stuck. All these happen all night and he tends to wake himself up a fair bit. Is this because he is getting active and how long will this go on I think broken sleep is suffering for me and him both. poor little thing!

i have one thing to say about little ones getting legs stuck in cots: buy a sleeping bag. we did, total success

Definitely sleeping bag!

And we ignored the advice to avoid cot bumpers at this stage, too, so that he couldn't wedge his arm through the bars.

Sleeping bag! it sorted the problem beautifully . He can walk wearing it now but at least he is well covred all night and we don't find him with legs hanging from the cot.

And unless he's bitterly distressed leave him to sort himself out. 'Rescuing' him will only prolong the agony - sooner or later he'll need to learn to either get back into a comfortable position by himself or just go back to sleep.

Sounds nasty, but it isn't really .

I used the cot bumper from 4-5m. I was tired of hearing his head bumping against the cot. He moves all around all the time, he can move 3 feet in 5 minutes when he was 1 week old!

I agree I did use a sleeping bag for a while he kicked in it e.t.c. but where it has been so hot lately he hasn't been in it. Our flat was about 28 degrees plus in the bedroom at night so I stopped using it. But now the nights are cooler I may start using it again.

Last summer when dd was 6m and it was really too hot for the sleeping bag, I put her in a pillow case (with her arms and head out obviously) and pinned it behind her shoulders with nappy-pins.

If the children's room gets too hot I set a fan to waft over them.
