8 month old has forgotten how to sleep?

My DS had just turned 8 months.
His sleeping has never been that great, most nights he goes from 8pm to 6am with 2 feeds.
He has never slept through either.

He was OK about going to sleep though, I could put him in the cot awake and he would just put his fingers in his mouth and drift off. The same for naps, which would usually be 2 a day of an hour or so am and 2 hours pm.

The last 5 days have been hell.
Awake for the day at 5am.
Napping for 10 to 20 mins only twice a day even in the car or pram
Not going to bed until 10pm
Absolutely cannot settle himself, he gets hysterical - screaming, writhing, clawing until I rock, shush and hold a dummy in his mouth.
Waking hourly to do the whole shush, rock, dummy routine again.
He had never slept with a dummy before as he sucked his fingers but now they won't go anywhere near his mouth.

Any ideas? We are seriously struggling now.
I thought teeth initially but giving calpol or nurofen does nothing.

In the same situ, perhaps coming out the other side of it myself.

Could be the 8-10 sleep regression or teething.

I would say to just make sure you’re using pain control if there are signs of teething and try and persevere. It’s all a stage and they will come out of it! You could also consider using sleep training... but be wary of doing so if there is any chance that he is in pain as obvs not fair to leave to cry if that’s the case.

Flowers this too shall pass...

Oh I didn't realise there was a regression now.
That does explain it. Like I say I've been assuming teeth and giving pain relief as eating is causing pain too.

Dare I ask how long you've been in it?

We’ve had a bad month. Last week has been better (except for the 5-5.30 wake up time everyday) Grin

was it a bad night last night?

TheLittlestPanda · 11/07/2018 21:10

Yes, pretty crap.

Today was slightly better, we were with family so he was thoroughly played with and fell asleep in the car and pram at appropriate times.

Bedtime currently going badly!

Shit isn’t it? Mine is very similar, we’re at 9 months now and have had one or two slightly better nights recently, but going to bed is a nightmare. I’m really hoping 10 months is the end of it!

Jellybabie3 · 12/07/2018 07:35

Hmm my DS is 9mo and has been waking pretty much hourly for a few weeks. I put alot of it down to the heat. But the last few nights have been much cooler and hes still waking hourly and wanting to be held to sleep then wakes every time I try and lay him down. I am shattered. Hope it passes for us all soon.xx

So glad I'm not the only one! 9 months here and though sleeping is better than it has been (month ago was co sleeping most of night, waking every 45 mins), she would not go to sleep last night for 2hrs at bedtime, blowing raspberries etc! And wakes every 2hrs at least all night. Naps were 45 minutes, now 25!! So no advice. Just solidarity!
