How old were your DC when you stopped using baby monitors?

Still going at 2.7.....

ifoundthebread · 09/07/2018 21:41

I have a 3 year old and still use one, it's only a sound one but we sleep on different floors so I need to know if shes up as she is closer to the dangerous parts of the house (kitchen/bathroom/front and back door)

newcupcake · 09/07/2018 21:41

I stopped when they went into a bed and were no longer in a cot

AlbusPercival · 09/07/2018 21:43

Umm about 9 months here

OneForTheRoadThen · 09/07/2018 21:44

When he started sleeping through - about 21 months 🙈

liquidrevolution · 09/07/2018 21:46

Still using at just turned 4. Just a sound one not video. Can talk to DD through it so saves having to go upstairs if not necessary. Tonight's conversation from DD was ' I need a drink' and 'mummy I luuuuurvve youuuuu' followed by me saying 'go to sleep' 20 times.

Orangepear · 09/07/2018 21:49

I sold mine when DD went into her own bed aged 2, but I wish I still had it, especially if I want to sit in the garden in the evening.

dinosaurkisses · 09/07/2018 21:52

Never used one- we just keep the doors open enough for us to hear if DD is awake

rosamore · 09/07/2018 21:53

We've still got them at aged 6/7 but I rarely use them. It's a bit OTT but they share a room and I like being able to be 'big brother' and have a quick check if I think I hear them playing wrestling after bedtime. Especially useful now I seemingly constantly have a baby attached to my breast.

InDubiousBattle · 09/07/2018 21:57

My dc are 4.8 and almost 3 and we still use one. They sleep in the attic so in the evenings they're two floors up and we can't hear them over the tv/radio.

ILoveMyDressingGown · 09/07/2018 21:59

When it broke.
We stopped using one for the eldest at 1.5 yrs, when the youngest was born. It broke when the youngest was about one. We have a small house and thin walls though so probably didn't need it at all really.

We have 3x walkie-talkies now for when they're in bed and we're out in the summerhouse on an evening.

bonzo77 · 09/07/2018 22:02

When the monitor dies! My DS2 (5.5) sleeps in the loft room, Edwardian house, high ceilings etc. Monitor is useful if we’re out of earshot. And I use to talk function to communicate without shouting up 2 flights of stairs. 2.10 yr old DS3 also has one. Very handy if he wakes from his nap while I’m gardening. They’re just basic audio ones though, no video.

SoyDora · 09/07/2018 22:05

About 12 months here. I can hear them if they shout.

diamantegal · 09/07/2018 22:09

8! And only then because it finally broke. But we used it as a two-way radio rather than a monitor - saved yelling up or down the stairs.

skankingpiglet · 09/07/2018 22:14

As a PP, when we converted the cot into a bed as we were worried about the strangulation risk. So at 16 and 14 months.
We just kept the door ajar after that. We don't live in a mansion so can hear them well enough if they wake.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 09/07/2018 22:24

About 4, when DD was dry at night so we stopped shutting the gate and she could come to the stairs and call if she wanted us in the evening. The gate was, by that stage, primarily to keep the cat out as he is very good at hiding in shadows and is too old to jump over it. The layout of our house is such that unless DD was shouting very loudly, it was hard to hear her if we were in the living room and she was in her bedroom.

silkpyjamasallday · 09/07/2018 22:33

We are still using our video monitor with almost 2 yo dd. She still occasionally wakes in the night, but will sometimes resettle herself if DP or I don’t go to her immediately, so it’s useful to be able to gauge whether we need to get up. Most of the time now when she wakes up (usually at around 4 or 5 am) she just silently and comes into our room, we are woken by her standing by the side of the bed demanding ‘up please’ Grin she then goes back to sleep with us for a few hours. I could probably stop using the monitor given that it’s rarely necessary anymore, but I’m quite anxious and find having it reassuring.

NapQueen · 09/07/2018 22:35

We used ours from 8weeks (for a couple hours before we went to bed in same room) to about 8months. Then they went away and only got take out for holidays/sleeping at grandparents.

happymummy12345 · 09/07/2018 22:41

My ds is nearly 3, has slept through from 3 months, was in our room until 16 months, and has been in a bed since 17 months (this was our choice, we only moved him to his own room sky he could get used to it before he went in his bed). We have always used a video monitor and will continue to use one for a good while yet. I couldn't not be able to see him, I wouldn't like that at all.
