My DD is 23 weeks and has been moving around for the last week, a kind of worm motion and propping herself up with all her arms and legs.

So as super proud as a I am... it seems to have totally balls up our night time routine!

She is so hyper and night when we put her down, no matter how much she yawns or eye rubbing, the second I put her in the snuz, all her arms and legs go mental, she's chattering, rolling and giggling.

Any advice on how to help her switch off?
We currently bottle at 5:30, couple of table spoons of food at 6:00. Bath at 6:15ish, with a cuddle/story and in the cot by 6:45, usually asleep by 7

TIA

Are you doing night feeds? Because 5.30pm is very early for a last bottle if not.

Bedtime going to pot upon baby learning the gross motor skills is fairly normal though.

I would suggest you try and actively teach baby to be still at bedtime. This isn't necessarily something that comes naturally- babies don't always realise that in order to go you sleep first she must be still, calm and quiet.

A hand placed quite firmly in baby's chest helps you still them. It might also help to put another hand on baby's feet/legs, if being especially kicky. Also put your head close to baby's, if that's possible (I used a full sized bedside cot), with your mouth close to baby's ear so she can feel and hear you close. A bit of shushing, some patting with your hand if needed. But mostly just lie there, still, quiet and calm yourself and wait for baby to also become still, quiet and calm... and go to sleep.

She sleeps through, 7-6 am, she's dropped the later bottle very early on. Tonight for example I offered her a bottle at 6:40 just after her bath, as I know a few mums have said their babies are very hungry after their bath, and I'm conscious of making sure she drinks enough in this heat. But she just plays with the bottle and refuses it.

It took an hour of frantic wiggling but I think she might be finally sleeping.
We've always had to gently keep her arms down as she winds down, but this wiggling is on a whole new level!

Just to add, other than occasionally holding her arms still she has self settled very well and slept through from about 4months

My dd is the same as of this week and I’m going a bit stir crazy! Following for tips!

toohotandbothered · 08/07/2018 20:16

Not sure if this will help you @GetInMaBelleh but I just left her to it tonight, and stopped trying to keep her on her back. She's crashed out on her front happily within 10 mins.

Bit jumpy about leaving her like that but it make sense that she just wants to be on her front all day so she would want to do the same at night

Going through the exact same thing this week. DS learned to roll over the day we moved him into his own room and new cot! I too have been very worried about leaving him to sleep on his front. He does have an alarm which helps to some extent. It’s just a nightmare getting him to settle himself as he constantly rolls over it becomes a game. Even if I leave him to it he then gets frustrated after a while of being on his tummy!

We found a sleep bag initially helped with the rolling but it makes it hard in this weather, but it is on a whole new level now. And she's so super chuffed with her self, big cheesy grins and giggling.
Can't even be mad 🤦🏽‍♀️

When it cools down a bit have a look at swaddle ups. They saved my sanity when my twins were little.

They're like magic sleep costumes!

When my first started rolling onto his front to sleep my HV just said to go with it. Generally if they can get themselves over they can get back, also they are able to move their heads easily.
