How much sleep does your 4 year old get?

Interested to know what time your 4 year old goes to bed and gets up in the morning. Mine who has recently turned 4 is in a weird cycle just now where we get one 12 hour sleep, followed by a night where bed time is after 8pm, up before 6am with a wake up around 1/2am thrown in!!!!
Thanks

Haha pretty much the same here! DS goes to bed at 7 where he is allowed to play on his tablet for a little while, then he's usually asleep by 8. BUT! Last night I could hear him still awake talking and playing with his cuddly toys until 9!

He's done that quite a lot recently and I'm thinking it's the light nights and mornings. He will be awake till 9 (doesn't matter if he's had a super busy day or not!) then up at 5.30-6am.

The joys of a 4 year old Grin

Oh forgot to add that at least twice a week he's woke me up in the middle of the night as well. I really do think the summer hours confuse their body clocks a lot!

GlummyMummy · 28/06/2018 06:58

Oh dear stewpots!!!! Was he a good sleeper before or has he always been one for early starts and night wakes?

Ds goes to bed at 7.30-8 and he wakes up at 6.30-7, with the occasional 7.30 thrown in. He seems to hneed an average of 11-11.5 hours a night over a week, he was up at 6.30 yesterday and is still asleep now. We have a good bedtime routine and there's never any fuss at bedtime, he just goes to bed and goes to sleep.

GlummyMummy · 28/06/2018 07:02

That sounds ideal InDubiousBattle. I certainly don't think mine gets enough sleep. Early starts are bad enough but with a wake up overnight too, all pretty exhausted!!!

I think the light makes a difference too, today here is much less bright now than yesterday when my room was light by now.

He's 4.7 and up until Easter he would still have an hour and a half nap in the afternoon! It's not unusual for him to walk several miles a day though as we don't drive and, well we like to walk. He's generally shattered by the end of the day and will say he's ready for his bed.

StewPots · 28/06/2018 07:06

Except when he was a baby he has been a fairly good sleeper - usually fast asleep 7-7, but the last 4-5 months he's averaging 8-5.

He doesn't seem bothered by it (unlike me!). Obviously there's days when he feels tired but we all have times like that. Ironically this morning I don't think he's awake yet but I was at 6am! HmmGrin

Not much this week. Too much light. Last night finally asleep about 9.15 up at 6.30 this morning. Up overnight to go for a wee.
Usually though it's lights out at 8.30 and not up till 7am so approx 10.5 hours

TheDuchessOfBoxford · 28/06/2018 07:13

Mine has a bath around 7/7.30 followed by a story and asleep by 8. Always been great at going to bed without a fuss. Sleeps til around 7.30/8 but some mornings has to be woken at 8.30 which is going to be problematic and he starts school this year! He’s not napped in the day since he was around 2 so clearly needs a decent night’s sleep

ChristmasAccountant · 28/06/2018 07:15

Mine seems to be content with 10-11 hours. He is a good sleeper now (after 3 years of being horrendous!), bed time 7-730, normally up by 630.

GlummyMummy · 28/06/2018 07:35

Thanks everyone. It's impossible for us to have bedtime before 7.30/8. If we try to do it earlier, she will just muck about after lights out until that time anyway! And 7am would be a long lie for us! Usually up at 6am, though this morning it was 5.45 and up at 1. Frustrating!

Wow, InDubiousBattle - nap at the age of 4!!!! I'm jealous!!!! Would he nap in his bed? Mine will only nap now if ill or occasionally on the couch if she's had a run of nights with lots of wakings.

More recently my nearly 4 year old goes to bed around 1900hrs but has started to get up at 0600hrs. Not sure if it's the light plus noise from one of use going to work early.

LillyBugg · 28/06/2018 07:59

I've started putting mine to bed at 6.30 after constant waking at 5am. He was so grouchy and I couldn't get him to sleep longer in the morning so I moved bed time forward. It worked. He's usually asleep by 7. Wakes anywhere between 5-6.

Lollyb86 · 28/06/2018 08:02

DD 4 goes to sleep at 645/7 and wakes up 5.30-6.30.
Same wake up time no matter what time she goes to bed but she is tired and ready for bed at 6.30 and falls asleep within minutes so this works for her

SoyDora · 28/06/2018 08:04

Mine sleeps 7.30-7.30.

SoyDora · 28/06/2018 08:05

We also walk several miles a day (4 mile round trip to pre school) but she dropped her nap at 20 months!

Kim82 · 28/06/2018 08:10

My dd is 4 in a couple of weeks, she goes to bed between 7.30pm and 8pm and wakes up at around 7-7.30am. She gets around 11.5 hours a night with the occasional 12 hour sleep. She hasn’t napped for about 2 years and is non-stop from the second she wakes up so zonks out in bed within minutes.

GlummyMummy · 28/06/2018 08:36

LillyBugg - how do you manage the 6.30 bed around dinner and baths?

Hearing from you all confirms my suspicion that my child is definitely not getting enough sleep!
