Overtired and old tricks not working

My 9m old has recently become really difficult to put to sleep. She’s never been a baby that could be put down and left as she is extremely determined and will stay awake for hours in her cot. We have been able to give her a bottle and put her to sleep, or for naps, turn everything off and put her on the sofa, laying down next to her and she will drop off and then moved to the cot.

Now, nothing is working! She fights sleep really badly, she won’t even drop off in her pushchair, the car seat stays in the car so can’t really put her to sleep in the car during desperate times.

White noise and lullabies aren’t working, she won’t be rocked, she will continuously get up and generally hurts herself in the process as she gets so tired she can’t stand up as strong as normal. I feel like I’m in a catch 22 as she won’t be held and she can’t really be let loose as she will knock herself- looking for any tips?! Tonight it took almost 2 hours, she’s also poorly at the mo which doesnt help at all- but it’s like once she’s overtired it’s impossible to get her to sleep... well it’s getting impossible even when she’s not overtired!!

if she's ill you could try some calpol, it will help the illness and help her sleep?

Thanks for replying. We did give her calpol during the 2 hour trying to settle session, but I’m not sure it helped with her sleeping as she’s been doing this for a couple of weeks now (it’s just twice as bad now she’s ill)

did you lower the lighting to really dim? also play lullaby music quietly with the dim lighting.... that always helped with my little one...

Yes tried both, low lighting and some nice lullaby music on low.

I’ve just read a post about something to try with putting them in a cot and moving a chair a bit away each night until they go off to sleep, sounds like a good idea and something I could try as I really want her to settle gently but she will constantly stand up in her cot, pull on the mobile or like I mentioned in the first post, end up hurting herself as she’s too tired to properly stand up, just don’t know what to do!
