Toddler Night Terrors

It appears my DS1 (18months) has been having night terrors.

It started out as only around once a month. But since DS2 has arrived, he seems to be having them every couple of nights. (Uncontrollable screaming and kicking out. Doesn't respond to me or DH. We switch on all the lights, sing but it's like he is in a trance of crying. However from what I've read they are only supposed to last up to15 mins, but DS could be crying for upto 2 hours.

If you had a toddler who had night terrors how did you deal with it? I feel terrible just leaving him. But advice says don't wake them up... Confused
Tried a bottle of milk, dummy, cuddles in our bed, lights on, story, singing, dancing around while holding him. When he screams sometimes he is waking up DS2 and having two up at the same time is such hard work.

We had similar 16 month gap between DC and the older one had night terrors from around 18 months for about a 6 months (I think). As he wasn't responding we tended to just hold him lightly (to stop him rolling off the bed) and shh shh shh to him quietly, this seemed to calm him down the quickest.

DC2 learnt to sleep through it or at least go back to sleep without screaming themselves. It only really stopped when he was sharing a room with DC2.

Wake him gently when you go to bed to re-set his sleeping pattern so he skips the phase. I believe they occur during the REM sleep stage. This method worked for my ds.

Oh my goodness isthistoonosy 6 months Shock poor you
I will try the shhhing. He did it twice today in his nap time.

I have recently cut down from Two naps to one nap. (I'm not sure he's ready for one nap to be honest. Perhaps this is the route of his night terrors)

Themousetrap o will give that a go tomorrow. Thanks

Naps could be a thing, mine stopped napping altogether at 18 months luckily it wasn't that often for us - a few times a week.
Good luck
