Sleeping bags/Gro bags in the heat?

I’ve just bathed my 10 week old, massage and into a short sleeve vest and his 1 tog sleeping bag. The thermometer is saying around 24, is he gonna get too hot? Our bedroom got to 27 before this lovely storm came and cooled things down a bit and it’s been far cooler today. I might take the vest off and just have the bag? He got too cold in a vest last night/early this morning. He’s so snug in his bag and hasn’t been sleeping too well, I just panic about over heating. Gro website says he needs a 0.5, a NHS one I found said he’s fine?

I would put just a vest or just a thin babygrow if he gets cold no bag

I've got 2 very light ones from jojo as my 11mo is a sweaty beast
one is muslin and the other is sheet

MiniMaxi · 30/05/2018 13:42

I follow Gro's guidelines too and at 24 I would put him in a short-sleeved or sleeveless vest, and a 0.5 tog (officially "under 1 tog") muslin bag I got from Jojo's. Any hotter than 24 and I tend just to put him in a vest.

MiniMaxi · 30/05/2018 13:42

Sorry I meant to add - if all you've got is a 1 tog, just go vest-only until it's a bit cooler

Easier to warm baby up than cool down so imho ditch the bag.

Babies heat up quickly and can be a nightmare to settle them again

arbrighton · 30/05/2018 13:54

It's not even just settling them gryffen, it's actually dangerous for them

At 24 mine had a long sleeved top and his 1 tog gro bag- he seemed fine. His little arms and hands tend to get cold if he has a vest on. As the gro guidelines say (at the bottom of the card) . They are general guidelines and all babies are different.

Touch your baby on back of neck and tummy etc and use your common sense. I also have a 0.5 gro bag- so I can use that too if it is very hot.

Thank you, didn’t see that I’d gotten replies Smile

I always go with common sense and feeling his neck or tummy, just doubted myself a little. It ended up being 22ish anyway so he was completely fine. He sleeps so well in a Gro bag and he can’t have a blanket because he rolls around too much so I’ve bought him a 0.5 one that should have been delivered today actually Hmm

My 16 week old is just in a sleeveless vest at the moment no blanket. I will put a blanket on her in an hour or so as it's gets dark and cools then when I dream feed her at 11 I will probably put her in a 1 tog sleep bag no sleep suit.

HeavyMetalMama · 31/05/2018 23:38

@booomboom1234 it must be much warmer in your house! He’s just in a sleep suit at the moment. Can I ask what dream feeding is?

Sorry op only just seen this. Dream feed is when you pick them up when they are still asleep and feed them a bottle and pop them back to bed straight after without really waking them. I find it helps her to have a longer patch of sleep. So I usually do this at 11ish then she will go through till 5 or 6 without getting hungry. Sooo warm tonight she is just in a vest again!! xxx

HeavyMetalMama · 04/06/2018 02:38

Oh thank you! I’ll look into that, I’m breastfeeding on demand atm. He loves a sleeping bag so he’s in just a nappy and 0.5 tog, beautifully cool and without jinxing things has only woken up twice since 11! All windows open, fans on, lights off, curtains closed all day etc and I cannot get this room below 25 Sad

I find a top is better than a poppered vest as it keeps air flow where as a vest traps the heat
