Won’t settle at night.

Hi all,

I’m sure this thread has been posted a bunch of times but having a few issues in the night with our 11 week old. After the bedtime routine we would put him to sleep at around half 7 but when it gets to the early hours (2 or 3am) he becomes wriggly and won’t keep still. He has a dream feed at 10pm but just seems after that he won’t settle. It’s hard because we have been having great sleeps from 10 ish all the way through to 7! or even later in previous weeks.

Suggestions will be muchly appreciated!

Is he staying asleep at 2/3am or is the wriggling waking him up? My 11 week old sleeps from 8pm to anywhere between 3 and 4am at the moment and after that feed he can get SUPER wriggly like he’s uncomfortable but he stays asleep through it until 8am. Are you co sleeping?

Hey Rach he stays asleep until around 3 when he needs a feed but from after being out back down around 45 mins or so later he is very wriggly but is still asleep. He seems to calm when I stroke his head and sooth him. We aren’t co sleeping he’s in a Chico next to me. He doesn’t have too longer nap time during the day so maybe that could be it? Sounds just like your 11 week old

Yep very much the same here apart from he’s in the cot first half of the night and then I co sleep second half as he doesn’t settle back in the cot after for some reason. Do you think it could be wind? I thought this might be the culprit as I feed lying down and if I wind him he wakes up x

Don't start restricting day time sleeping ; in almost every case good sleep in the day begets good sleep at night.
Although it is annoying I would be tempted not to try and over analyse. Your baby is sleeping marvellously well for 11 weeks already and will sort himself out. The truth is that they vary from week to week. It isn't all about what we do as parents. It's sounds to me as if you are doing a great job I would just carry on.

Thanks for the messages and it’s so hard not to over analyse. Simply because he’s slept so well in recent weeks that it’s just a coincidence that when we start an actual bedtime routine it’s happened since then. But yes I agree with the sleeping well part it’s just that window from 4-6ish. Also not restricting the sleep in the day time we want him to sleep he’s just only getting 20 min cat naps. It could be wind but we make sure he is kept upright for at least half hour after feeds and the majority of the time get a burp!
