Any body any miracle cures for early waking?! I'm exhausted 😴
19 month old DS has always been a bit of an early riser but normally nearer 6, the last month it has been 5am Confused
He's so tired and miserable all day...struggles to make it to lunch time nap so ends up going back to bed about 11am (has about 1.5hours)...then ends up in such an over tired mess by tea time it's a struggle to make it to 6:30pm bedtime! How do I break the cycle??!
We've got white noise and black out blinds/curtains. Doesn't seem to be hungry/thirsty etc??

D'S was always like this and needed two naps a day for a long time. Till at lest 2. He still wakes early at 7 year's old, some people are just early birds.

I'd try giving him an early nap at 9ish. Then a normal afternoon nap. He'll either reset and wake latter again or conitune to be an early bird. And yes it's a pain for going anywhere. Lucky DS had an older sister so would have his first nap on the school run shoo we could still go out for things by 10am.

It's been a while since I had babies in the house but maybe try more frequent but less long naps in the day? So let him sleep at 11, but get him up after 45 minutes, then again after lunch?

I know it doesn't feel like it now but it is a phase and it will pass.

[repeats this to self as does have a baby puppy that currently gets self up at 5 every day]

No advice, only sympathy as my 15 month old has the exact same pattern as yours and it's been going on for 2 months.

I'm waiting it out, but it's very frustrating, especially because I have a 5 week old as well 😴😴😴😴

sleep5 · 24/05/2018 06:39

It could because of the earlier light in the morning. Do you have blackout curtains?

Oops, ignore my post!

Could he have two naps in the day, then go to bed a bit later. The thing is, he's having nearly 11 hours at night which is pretty great.

Vitalogy · 24/05/2018 07:00

ps, are you able to nap too.

RoseMartha · 24/05/2018 07:07

I agree with other comments about two naps, try and shorten morning nap to half an hour, you can wake him gently after that time then a longer nap sometime between 1-3. Aim to put him to bed at 7-7.30pm.
My dd use to have this routine from 8-12 months then dropped to slightly longer afternoon nap only with same bedtime.
Not always possible if you have other children or are out for the day etc

Thanks for all the replies ladies....so general consensus seems to be short am nap then a 2nd nap after lunch. I'll defo try that tomorrow...I'm pretty sure he will go down about 9ish as he looks like death and I basically carry him around fussing to try and get to lunch time at present! 7-7:30 bedtime would b much better too 🙏🏻😬

Good luck. Bear

Ours was a 5am to 5.30am waker. Sometimes he'd drop off again, but most of the time he was up for the day. We didn't use any special techniques, but as he got older he naturally slept longer.

If you've had particular problems over the last month it may just be the lighter mornings - ours has moved from a 7.30am riser to a 6.30am riser in the last few weeks which I mainly put down to the light.
