Weaning off swaddle/sleepyhead

I was hoping for some advice/success stories from anyone who has been through similar!

My 4 month old DS has been a great sleeper at night, however we have come to realise that he may not be without his swaddle or sleepyhead! He is very long and quickly outgrowing both and I am keen to get him into a sleeping bag. I have tried leaving him with one arm out but he seems to hit himself in the face and wake up! Has anyone tried going cold turkey from swaddle to sleeping bag? He usually ends up escaping in the night so I don't know if that's a sign that he is ready?!

And then to tackle the sleepyhead!! I don't really want to buy the bigger one so I don't have to figure how to fit it in my case to take it on holiday! I don't regret using these as they saved my sanity in the early days but I think it's going to be a tough few nights... any tips would be much appreciated Smile

Literally just about to write this post myself so watching with interest. Seriously debating buying the bigger Sleepyhead, though before spending £££ I was going to try putting rolled up towels underneath the cot sheet to see if it had the same effect.

We also bought the Up Swaddle recently which gives them a bit more movement while also preventing hitting on the head and waking themselves up. It goes up to about six months I think. Only thing is mine can flip herself in the night now and I'm worrying about her needing her hands free.

Just checked and the large Up Swaddle goes up to 11kg

My DS had the Purflo bed nest which he loved. We tried to wean him off it but atyggles to sleep without it as he likes to use it a pillow. He outgrew it at 4 months but was still using it at 11.5 months. I took it out of his cot and replaced it with a pillow and he's slept fine.

I wouldn't worry about him being too big for it, he will find a way to get comfy in it.

We used the sleepyhead untill 10 months when he randomly decided climbing out it was a nighttime game. DS is a smaller baby but still could have continued to use the sleepyhead deluxe. If you look at their website it actually says that it’s meant to be snug so baby feels nice and tight and secure. They recommend using up until about 8 months but I know people including us that have used it for longer. IMO people size up too quickly. At 10 months I had to take it away as he was just playing with it and had every intention of ordering the next size up without question however he slept fine without it that night so I left it another night and he’s been fine without it ever since.

Also with the swaddle we went cold turkey at about 4.5 months- took about 2 says to get used to a sleeping bag.

No help with the swaddle sorry but gave up the sleepyhead about a month ago when DD was 6.5 months. She threw up all over it one night so had to take it out to wash. Was anticipating bad night's sleep but she slept just the same as normal so we never bothered with it again. She seems to love having the space to roll over and sleep on her tummy now. So you never know, sometimes they can surprise us and not react as badly as we expect!

We took sleepyhead away at abput 6.5 months too and since then (TOUCH WOOD) sleep has improved a lot. She goes straight onto her side or front when we lay her down, and in the mornings she is always always snuggled up on her front.
Takes longer for her to get off for naps and sleep cos she keeps pushing up so dummy falls out, but when she goes, it’s great.
Don’t regret Sleepyhead, but glad it’s now gone
