Used to sleep until 6 in her crib, now will only sleep til 1:30 then insists on co sleeping!

I was very adamant that I would NEVER co sleep when I was pregnant, then she was born and now I’ve found myself in a predicament for the last month where she will only sleep if she’s next to me in bed. She’s 3 months old. She used to sleep fine in her cot but now she farts herself (and me) awake at 1:30 and will not settle back down in her cot so I have to bring her in bed with me and she sleeps like a log (I don’t). She sleeps 7:30pm til 1:30 in her cot then 1:30 til 7 in my bed, I have absolutely no idea how to break this habit! Has anyone been in a similar predicament???

Try a DIY cosleep error full sized cot.

Bring your big got in your your bedroom, remove one side (easy you do with most flat-packed cots) and wedge it up to your bed. See attached example (lots more on Google).

The benefit of a full sized cosleeper is that you can physically cuddle right into the cot with your torso. But extract yourself back to bed when baby settles.

I'd also suggest a dummy. Babies are naturally soothed by comfort sucking and it sure beats breastfeeding to sleep in my world.

If you are formula feeding, ensure you wind well after every feed.

DS is now 4 months and cosleeps most nights now.
He is so irritable in his co sleep pod thing..!

It is lovely sharing a bed but I fear it will make the cot/own bedroom transition harder x

This was me for three months from 3 months old. I think it was just the sleep regression, and the only thing that helped was him learning how to self settle. Co sleeping meant we got a bit of sleep though!

fatedestiny- that’s a fab idea, I was on the verge of buying a next to me crib but then thought she’d be too big for that!

Cheshiremama89 - that’s my concern, how the bloody hell am I going to get her out of the habit?! I always swore I wouldn’t do it!

HoneyWheeler - how did you teach him to self settle? I’ve just put my LG down now for a nap but as usual she had to be asleep about 5 mins in my arms before I could put her down!

I had a cot set up exactly as FATE has shown from day 1 with DD.

Its not the answer to the baby getting any more sleep - they tend to do what they please regardless of what you do, but it makes a world of difference to how much sleep you get in between them waking.

Some nights I would be practically nose to nose with my DD at the edge of my mattress sometimes with my head on her mattress, but crucially she wasn't anywhere near my duvet or pillow and I didn't worry about rolling on top of her in my sleep and as a result I slept better.

Once she got to the age where she was able to roll herself over we put the side back on the cot and moved it away from our bed slightly, so she was still in the space she was used to, and had us near by but was more independent.

When we eventually moved her into her own room (quite late at 13 mo) she just accepted it as we moved her in the cot she had always slept in from birth so not much changed for her.

I also second a dummy - I didn't think I would use one but found it made a huge difference in DD being able to settle herself as she got older.

I will be doing exactly the same with a bedside cot with DC2 who is due in a few weeks.

Pastabest- I’m going to get my other half to sort the cot out like this, she’s currently in a travel cot and the biggest issue is that she has to be touching me to be able to settle herself again when she wakes, unfortunately my arms aren’t long enough to reach into her travel cot to hold her hand ha! So this set up would be ideal. Ideally there would be a magic cure to stop her farting herself awake in the first place, but I don’t hold out much hope for that! I’m sure she’d sleep solidly if it wasn’t for her mahoosive farts. 😂

i just got a cheap second hand one off a local selling site (two cheap cots actually as DC1 is still in hers at 16mo so I had to get a second one for DC2). One was £50 and one £20.

ideally look for ones that have drop sides as part of the design as it usually means they fit together in a way that isn't dependent on all 4 sides being completely fixed, but if you do get one without a drop side they are still usually just about stable enough.

Oops I misread and didn't realise you already had a cot!
