2nd Set of Teeth - Waking Up Middle Of night

Hi All,

first time poster here.

My baby boy who is about to turn 5 months is about to have his 2nd of teeth. His first set came out about 6 weeks ago.

He has been a good sleeper since 4 weeks, sleeping from 10pm to 7am without waking up for a feed.

These last 4 nights have been quite bad for us. He sleeps fine from 10pm, after a feed and a shot of calpol, but he has been waking up at 4am shaking his head with discomfort. The only way to put him back to sleep is to give him another shot of calpol and feed him, and then he will sleep till 8am.

A lot of our friends, who are young parents, advised it is not right feeding him in the middle of the night if he is a good sleeper, otherwise he will learn this new routine and it will be difficult for him to go back to his old ways.

What should we do? I feel pressured in making the right/wrong decision.

Further note: He is fully swaddled at night because he had bad eczema on his face, caused by excessive rubbing from his teething. Doctor has given us antiobiotics and his face has cleared up, so we are afraid to unswaddle him.

Thanks

BaoLok

That’s great he was a good sleeper from early on but personally id ignore what your friends are saying. He’s teething and that can be really uncomfortable for them so it’s absolutely fine to give comfort and milk if he needs it. Also baby sleep can go up and down. There can be good phases and bad. Babies can go through phases of sleeping through and then not, and can start waking for feeds when they has dropped them before. It’s all normal. He’s also so very tiny so so what YOU feel is right.

All routines go out to window when there's teething/illness. He's in pain bless him so if he takes comfort in a feed do it! Ignore your friends.
