She’s sleeping in the dogs bed?

My dd2 (4) has always co-slept with her sister (9) through their own choice, but now the older one wants to sleep on her own which is fine except dd2 won’t go to sleep on her own. I tried putting her in with me and dh but she doesn’t like it - he’s a rugby player so rather large and she tends to get squashed! So I put her in her own bed and she cries for hours until she falls asleep, but now she has worked out if she lays quietly and pretends to be asleep until me and dh have gone to bed she can get up and get into bed with our Dalmatian who’s bed is on the landing (he won’t sleep downstairs on his own🙄) so every morning for the last week I have found her curled up with the dog and her blanket, I mean it’s pretty cute and I have no safety worries as he’s a very gentle dog but it’s pretty weird and can’t be good for her posture?

Ah I have no help if it's good or not but joe bloody adorable!

Can the dog bed not be moved next to her bed then would she sleep in her bed?

Blueprincess1 · 14/05/2018 23:02

Thanks kitty I hadn’t thought of that but I think the dog would probably end up in her bed which I would mind if he didn’t shed so much hair!

I would let the dog sleep on her bed. I find a dog on the bed very comforting if DH is away, and I’m middle aged.

Also think she’s found a kindred spirit who doesn’t like to sleep alone either ! Let them share her room at night and you have a happy doggie and happy daughter, win win.

You could get a blanket to go over her head so the hair wouldn't get absolutely everywhere?

I sleep with my cat on my head 🤷🏽‍♀️ she's currently under the bed and I'm waiting for her to join me 😂

Over her bed not head 😂 it's time for bed I think my spelling is absolute shit

Let the dog sleep on her bed... what’s a few hairs in the grand scheme of things if it means dd gets a good sleep in her own bed. Sleeping in the dogs bed is also very cute ... but probably not the best option longer term. My dog sleeps on/ in my bed and it’s like cuddling a real live teddy Grin

That's adorable! I'd ask her if she'd like the dog's bed moved next to hers as well. Yes the dog will end up in her bed but tbh it's better that way round.

Mrsramsayscat · 14/05/2018 23:32

Absolutely not, just in case the dog hurts her. However well trained.

blueskypink · 14/05/2018 23:41

Oh that's that's so adorable. Though I must admit, I'd be slightly hesitant at leaving a 4 year old with a large dog overnight. She's very young.

And I say that as a complete dog lover who has to fight DH and 2 Labradors for a corner of our bed most nights. Sleeping with a dog is very very comforting. But you just don't know if one of them might unintentionally hurt the other. I leant too hard against one of my dogs recently and he snapped at me. Normally as soppy as can be but he has arthritis in this hips and I must have hurt him.

And is she old enough to understand not to let the dog lick her face?
