2 year old having nightmares

Our 2 year old has started having nightmares... we think! He hasn't told us it's nightmares but he wakes up in the night either crying or screaming and shouted for me and then tells me things like "granny's gone" "lorry car crash" "chase".

It's been going on for about a month and I'm starting to worry.

He's a perfectly happy, confident child during the day. There's been no changes in his life. Nothing at all has changed. He's had a few viruses but nothing out of the ordinary.

Is this normal?

I've tried to talk to him about dreams but i don't know how much he understands.

No advice but DS1 had night terrors at this age, they were scary. It was quite a short phase I seem to remember, perhaps only a few months and maybe once a week. Thanks

My dd started having night terrors at about 18 months. I still remember a terrible nightmare I had the month I turned 3. It involved robots... , I think it is fairly common to have nightmares at this age, there is so much to process. I have found the “This works “ baby sleep pillow spray helps my dds sleep more easily if they are overtired, they are much older (youngest 11) but I still use the baby one, might help if overtiredness is an issue, or if he is worrying about nightmares. I use the adult one if I’ve had a nightmare.
