Had some brilliant advice previously, hoping for some more because not sure how long this can go on for.

Dd will be 6 weeks old on Wednesday. She is exclusively formula fed and is on aptamil. For the past 3 days she has been very unsettled, especially at night. We think it's wind and have tried infacol and gripe water, jury's still out on whether they're helping. She's certainly burping and farting more but the pain and shrieking is continuing.

The problem is that she'll settle ok for a sleep around 8pm and sleep on and off, waking fpr a feed at around 11pm and then like clockwork after midnight she turns into a screaming monster. Every hour she'll wake herself with a shriek and will continue to cry really painful sounding cries until she passes wind. The trouble is it doesn't seem to matter how much we burp her or how much she farts, she'll pass wind, settle for a few minutes and then it starts again. It will go on like this, sleeping for 10 to 20 minute chunks and crying until about 6am. We try waking round with her, patting her, rocking her, in a sling, dummy- nothing settles her.

In the day she's much better, I can't understand why it's so severe at night. If it was a milk allergy surely it would be constant no matter the time of day? I've seen that 6 to 8 weeks is peak crying time but again is that really only at night? Please help, my husband is being fantastic and has taken the majority of the post midnight onslaught because it's a bank holiday but I'm dreading the week if it continues and I'll have to do the nights again when he goes back to work.

Could possibly be colic. Have you tried colief? It's over the counter.

other thing I can think of is if she isn't bringing up milk it might be silent reflux. That would require a doc visit to get some infant gaviscon

Are you giving her a bottle at night when she wakes? Might be a growth spurt coupled with colic which is making her very grumpy!

Try colief as well. Worked wonders for dd in expressed milk!

I had the same problem with my son and he was on aptamil. I ended up changing his milk and I’ve noticed a massive difference he’s winding much better and more settled. I’m not saying that’s what you need to do. Have you tried Something for colic?

DailyMailFail101 · 06/05/2018 08:47

Why not give Aptamil comfort a try? It’s a little more expensive but might be worth a go. It’s for colic and constipation, sounds like your baby may have colic.

Sounds like colic😳 or "true colic" as a nurse told me on our youngest ds. It manifests at 6 weeks...good luck. You cud try changing to a non dairy formula or Dr Browns bottles. Good luck xx

We got dentinox and that settles our little girl pretty much instantly, she’s also on comfort milk which helps immensely.

Sammilouwho · 06/05/2018 08:59

Oh, and we also use the MAM bottles which are brilliant

Germantree · 06/05/2018 11:09

Oh god I really didn't want it to be colic :( I thought we were past the danger point of 2-3 weeks and that she was too old for it now. Thank you for he suggestions. I'll try colief first as we've already spent a fortune on Dr Brown's bottles which didn't work for us and I don't think dh would be too pleased to find I've bought even more bottles.

Try some baby massage moves on her tummy, there’s some specific ones for colic (water wheel, I-L-U, cycling legs) which used to really help move through my baby’s intestinal gas.

Anti reflux milk may help. It'll settle the wind and prevent being sick from trying to push wind out. We did this with ours as she was moany and windy and upset from bring gassy mainly at night and it helped.
