Hi,

How many of you have had one of these style cribs? What are the pros and cons? How long does the baby sleep it in for? It's all a bit baffling! Thank you :)

I have the Chico next to me and is currently inhabited bu my second baby who is 8 weeks old. I ended up having emergency sections with both and must say it was an absolute life safer for that! They are a really decent size my daughter easily slept in it until 6months and we use to use it as a travel cot as well as is very easy to alcove apart and go up and comes in a handy bag, we even took it to France on the aeroplane at 3months with her. My son is considerably longer but still loads of room and we actually tend to transition into cots by about 5months in their own rooms m. Overall I know they are pricey but worth the investment especially if you are likely to use again and I hear they have pretty decent resale value too! I wouldn't be without mine. Hope that helps!

I had it and did like it, DD was only in it til about 4.5-5 months as she liked to roll around and didn't have enough space to. However I know some who use it up to 10-11 months depending on how mobile the baby is and how big they are! I didn't bother with a Moses basket or anything so felt it was ok for the price.

We didn't buy a Moses just got the Chicco and lent Moses,,, dd is 9 months and still in hers (we got the new click up and down side) although she will be moving into her own room soon.... I love it though amazing now she's bigger... only thing I found is that she struggled to settle because it's so roomy, we put a sleepyhead in it and she loves it!

I used Chicco Next To Me for my dd until she was six months and went into her own room. We both loved it, it's wearying enough having to get up two or three times a night without having to also haul yourself out of a nice warm bed! When she was very tiny I put rolled up towels around the edge, just to make it a bit cosier - don't think she really cared though...

Pros
They can fit in it up to 6 months by which point you are ready to move them in to their cot
You can leave Moses basket downstairs
You can tilt it on one side if your baby has a cold
You can see your baby through the mesh so don’t have to keep sitting up
Cons
Mattress is quite hard but didn’t effect my baby

Loved ours. We originally had a Moses basket but baby wouldn’t settle in it after first 3 weeks. We then used the next to be cot with a sleepyhead it in. I used to have the side down so I could see baby and literally only had to lift my arm to reach him and scoop him up for night feeds. They are so easy to put up, can be used as a travel cot and come with a handy bag. We used it untill just under 6 months however I’m sure he would have been okay in it a bit longer as he’s not a big baby, but he was ready for his own room. They also come in lots of nice colours and designs. Although they can be expensive it was totally worth the money. I’ve also since seen that you can get really good condition ones second hand.

I’d definitely recommend them, it’s the only thing other than the sleepyhead I’ve kept hold of for if we have anymore in the future :)

We have 2 for our twins who are dinky and so still fit comfortably at 8 months (although their crawling and pulling up means they're moving into proper cots this weekend)
I love how easy it it to transfer the baby from your bed when you're feeding straight into the cot.
I love how if they stir a little in the night you can reach a hand out to put on their tummies to comfort them without being uncomfortable yourself.
I like how they're a much better size than a standard crib or Moses basket so should last the average baby for 6 months.
I like that they pack down nicely if you're having a night or 2
away.

The only con really is the price but for us it was worth it. We've also slept without a duvet and with our pillows tucked under the sheet for months now. We use big cellular blankets each.

The twins have slept independently so much better than our first born whowe reluctantly coslept with. That may be luck of course but I can see the twins take comfort from having us so close, they both snuggle up to the edge nearest us.

Snuz pod, loved it, nearly 8 months DC was in it.
When DC had less night feeds, just detached it and had side always up, the little mesh window you can still see through without having to get up and check.

ShackUp · 05/05/2018 14:09

I wish I'd just taken the side off a standard cot and pushed it up to the side of my bed.

Babbington · 09/05/2018 19:15

We had the tutti bambini but I hated having it attached to the side of my bed. I was scared my duvet would go in on her and it was a nuisance to have to bum shuffle down the bed to get out (on episiotomy stitches in the early days!) and not be able to have my bedside table. I feed in another room sat in a chair anyway rather than in bed so no benefit for easy access. So after 2 nights we detached it and had it with all sides up sleeping girly away from my bed.

I still liked having it though as it meant little one could sleep in our room til just 3 nights ago when we moved her. She’s almost 7 months and outgrew Moses basket at 4 months

Pros- easy to see LO at a glance, can pick up LO to feed and put back down without having to get out of bed, can reach over and pat LO easily in the night, longer life than a Moses basket.

Cons- it’s harder to get out of bed, the solid sides mean LO can’t see out well, concerns about bedding making its way over to LO’s side.

Overall glad we bought one. We found a deal for a special edition one at about £140, less than the £180 RRP.
