Waking up baby for night feed

Hi,

I’m a new mum, baby girl is 3 weeks old. She feeds every 2-3 hours during the day and at the moment only once during the night, (4 hrs sleep, then feed, then another 4 hrs). Every night I have to wake her to feed her. She is SO sleepy it’s a real job to get her to wake up enough to latch on and keep her awake throughout the feed.

Should I keep waking her in the night? I’ve had a google and some sites say once they are back to their birth weight not to wake them, they will tell you when they are hungry? Or is she too little to realise she is hungry yet? Should I ask my health visitor?

Thanks in advance

Watching with interest for any tips for waking as my 7 day old is a nightmare to keep alert enough to feed in the night. I literally feel like I'm prepping a goose for fois gras force feeding him, poor love, but he is too little to skip night feeds just yet.

I wouldn’t wake her. Babies will wake when they are hungry? If she’s only waking up once that really good for a 3 week old as my son was the same. Only woke the once! I didn’t wake him up. Your not meant to be wake sleeping babies (well so they say) like I said babies will wake when they are hungry

In cases like this I’d always ask your health visitor, just to be on the safe side.

I'd continue to wake to feed. Too small to not have a night feed at that age.
