Anyone out there used this method with under 1s? DS is almost 11 months and we've given it a go for the first time this eve. He eventually dropped off after an hour of crying. One of us sat beside his cot the whole time. Every now and again we'd lay him back down, shhhh and tell him it's bedtime. Which I'm not sure is in the rules but I can not just ignore him so I've made allowances.

My question is, what do we do when he wakes in the middle of the night?

I am still breastfeeding and up until the last week or so a feed in the night when he woke would settle him back to sleep. This isn't working so well anymore and therefore I think I'm ready to night wean. At the minute, he is waking between 2-4 times during the night.

So, when he wakes, am I supposed to just go in give him a cuddle, put back down and sit by the cot as we did at bedtime??? Problem with this, is my partner works and the crying is definatley going to disturb him. And probably the neighbours too.

DS can be rocked to sleep but I know if I sit down and hold him he's going to want to breastfeed! I haven't actually looked up how to night wean but a friend suggested offering water instead of the breast. Which I'm all prepared for. It's just how best to resettle.

Any advice, tips, shared experiences welcome! Thanks!
