Why didn't I listen?!

To everyone who said I was building a rod for my own back. Or whatever the saying is.

Our baby has slept in with us since he was 8 weeks and as I EBF it meant we were all getting at least 6 hours sleep a night as he would wake to feed at least 3/4 times a night and it was just easier to feed him lying down in bed. Everyone told me I'd regret it but I just needed the sleep so we continued. And now he is 6 months and I just want him to sleep longer than 2 hours without having to feed for half an hour in between!!! We hoped the introduction of solids would help but if anything it's making it harder to get him to sleep! He will only feed to sleep. How do I even start to fix this!!!!

Feed him but not to the point he's asleep. Make sure he's drowsy but awake. But him down in his cot, kiss him goodnight and leave. He'll protest, but after a few mins go back in and comfort him. And repeat. It'll take some time but it does work.

He's still very little, and sleep often regresses during weaning.

You didn't make a rod for your own back. It was what you and your baby needed in the first six months. Both for your baby's happiness and your own sanity. The 'baby sleeping happily in its crib' is a myth. At least at night Grin

I used the sleep easy solution book to wean my DC off night feeds, with DH in charge of wake ups during the nights (I did the feeds, but any other wake ups were dealt with by DH so that the DC weren't near boobs). With first DC it was completely tear-free, with second there was the odd grumble. It took a while, but I could see the progress every night which kept me going.

Nothing to say that he wouldn't still have been waking tjat frequently regardless anyway! Half our antenatal group's babies still wake every 2 hours for a feed and they're approaching 10/11 months now.

Also I found my DS who was a good sleeper to actually go backwards when we first started weaning. Think the foods were playing on his belly a bit at night. Took him a while to adjust

6 month sleep regression. It effects all babies.

Rod for your back is bollocks. 6 month old babies still wake in the night and some wake frequently (mine did until 12 months old). You haven’t done anything wrong.
