What time do you put your 2.5yr old to bed?

Just that really!
Do you have a set bedtime each night or go off how tired they appear etc?
We have a good routine off, bath, bed, stories and it’s never later than 7 but sometimes he’s just wired and messes around for ages and I can’t figure out if he’s overtired or not tired enough.
He’s also started kicking off about having a bath, which is annoying!
I know it’s trial and error but nice to know what other people are doing.

My DS is 4 in July but I'm fairly sure we've put him to bed at 7:30 since about a year old. He usually goes off to sleep fairly quickly but sometimes it takes him a little longer. We have noticed that after pre-school he takes longer to fall asleep as he is not home until 6pm and needs time to unwind from the days activities!

Sandsnake · 20/04/2018 20:40

19.30. Been then since he first had a bedtime at six months. It seems to work for him.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 20/04/2018 20:59

I've just been thinking about this today! When ds1 was 2.5 it was strictly no later than 7, bath, stories, teeth and bed. Now ds2 is here it's crept later, pushing 7.30 for him and then 8 for ds1 who is now 6.
I don't bath them every night though they need it more in the summer ime, sticky from sun cream and muddy from the garden (Or maybe that's just my two!) Sometimes we just do a flannel rinse standing on a towel. Stories in our bed then bathroom and their room for sleeping.

Good luck!!

7-7.30pm. Same for my 4 year old, and they’ve both been going at that time since 6 months old!

2yrs 8 months and 14 months go around 7.30. I like to have ds1 in bed by 7.20 then ds2 has his bottle and bed by 7.30 Although on days when I'm at work it's later, sometimes past 8, which is too late for both of them but can't be helped. Tonight it was 7.15 (after 3 work days I think 6.30 would have been to e for both)

Ds1 hadn't napped for months and will sleep 12 to 13 hrs.

hayli · 20/04/2018 21:07

9:30 sometimes 10 Shock
Im struggling so much. She can wake up at instance no matter how early or late she goes to sleep. evenings are a nightmare.

woodenstag · 20/04/2018 21:08

My 2.5 yo goes to bed at 7. We change him and get pyjamas on then he has a few stories then bed. He doesn't sleep in the afternoon and hasn't for well over a year. He will usually sleep for 12 hours.

moreismore · 20/04/2018 21:09

We have recently started to impose a routine for nap and bedtime after a long time where we went off how long he’d been awake if that makes sense. My DS is a terrible sleeper but this is def helping. Nap 12pm and bath at 6.30pm with stories etc starting around 7pm. On a good night he’s asleep by 7.30pm, on a faffy night it’s 7.40pm. Very worst case 8pm!! He’s up around 5.30am regardless and we have totally failed to get him to sleep any earlier.

Justanotherzombie · 20/04/2018 21:09

13wk old, 2.5 yr old and 3.5 yr old are in bed and asleep by 7.15. 5 yr old goes more like 7.30.

moreismore · 20/04/2018 21:10

Oh he’s just turned 2 btw

TooMinty · 20/04/2018 21:16

At that age, 7pm but 6:30 if he was being an over-tired arsehole. Unlikely that 7pm is too early unless you get really late lie ins or hours of daytime napping...

TooMinty · 20/04/2018 21:16

And baths are only twice a week because he was kicking off too much.

Icklepickle101 · 20/04/2018 21:18

Between 7-8 depending what we’ve done that day, if he napped, how tired he is etc

Sometimes when I’ve tried to put him down at 7 and he’s not ready it’s taken an hour and 15 so I’d rather wait till 8 and it take 15 mins

SoyDora · 20/04/2018 21:19

Should have said above mine both sleep 12 hours but both stopped napping at around 20 months.

InDubiousBattle · 20/04/2018 21:23

My 2.9 year old and 4.4 year old both go to bed between 7.30 and 8. They don't have a bath every night but probably4-5 nights a week. My youngest will still napfor 2 hours in the afternoon several days a week but can go all day without a nap if we're busy. They both get up at around 7 am ish.

FinallyMrsE · 20/04/2018 21:35

Both my 2y8m old and 4y5m dd's bedtimes vary, we do bath at 6pm and we come back downstairs and leave them to tell us when they are tired, it is usually before 7, but sometimes it's as late as 8. When they do go up, they are asleep within 5 minutes max.

I am pretty sure some people will think I am one of 'those parents' but honestly, it works for us and it takes away the stress of trying to get them to sleep when they are not tired.

Disclaimer: My girls love their beds and enjoy sleeping in there so this may not work for everyone.

SoyDora · 20/04/2018 21:38

We’ve never had any bed time stress... they’ve always known that 7pm is bedtime, and that’s what time they go to bed. They’ve never argued, it just is what it is. They occasionally chat/sing to themselves for 5 mins but always asleep within 10 mins.

EspressoPatronum · 20/04/2018 21:46

It varies, anytime between 7 and 8 usually, with the very odd occasion of half 6 or 9 if he is particularly tired/ has a danger nap.

He's never been a good sleeper, but is now starting to tell us when he's tired and wants to go to sleep, so bedtime is becoming less stressful!

Snoopyokay · 21/04/2018 07:32

I wish my DD went that early. She goes at 830 but sometimes isn't asleep until 930 Confused she is very hyper and not a good sleeper.
