Crib refuser

So, DD (9 weeks) seems to have a massive aversion to her next2me, PITA considering how much the bloody thing was but anyway...

She will sleep in her pram bassinet, we thought initially maybe she feels too small in the crib as it's massive. So to get some sleep we let her sleep in that down stairs with DH or I on the sofa, then when she wakes for a feed around 4am, bought her and the pram upstairs, feed, get back to sleep on me and transfer back to bassinet.

Now she's bigger we did the transfer to crib after A.M feed and it started well but has all gone to shit. She has to be utterly zonked before being put in the crib. If she even stirs, she realises she's there, her arms and legs flail wildly, and grizzles until it's full on cry.

This afternoon she zonked out for a nap so took her upstairs, blackout curtains, in the crib. 10 minutes later the same thing. Back downstairs and in bassinet - out like a light.

We've tried putting a blankie tucked in to lie on instead of putting her head on cotton sheet, ewan, stuff that smells of us, grobag so we don't have to arse with blankets...

Right now I've transferred her off me and onto our mattress and she's sleeping but would rather not co sleep, much prefer she was in a seperate space.

The next to me doesn't quite line up with the mattress as we have a topper, also it's the newer model so just has a side that lowers but not fully - you have to lift her into it. So not as easy as gently sliding her over Sad

We are starting to think it's the bloody crib no idea why she hates it. Do we persevere through the massive upset crying, go back to lugging the pram upstairs (can't fit the bassinet in the crib, has to be the whole pram bought up), or just sell the poxy thing and get something else but what?

We had a cosleeper - best laundry basket I've owned! Grin

But in all seriousness, neither of mine would sleep in that or a cot of any sort. We coslept which was a good option for us. DD moved into a single bed at 16mo and 15mo DS moved onto a mattress on the floor at 12mo.

Please don’t sleep with your baby on the sofa it’s a huge SIDS risk. Look up ISIS safe cosleeping fact sheet and cosleep safely in bed.

Sorry should have been clearer. Baby is in pram in the living room (that's what I meant by 'she sleeps in that'), it's only DH or I that are sleeping on the sofa so we are in the same room as her. We do this to give the other one a chunk of sleep in a quiet bedroom. Definitely would never sleep with her on us!

I've looked at the cosleeping stuff, so know about all the dos and don'ts. I thought that they recommend the mother sleeps in that arc shape around baby with her arm tucked under her head. Last night I did give it a go but just couldn't sleep with my arm like that, although I'm naturally a side sleeper so that bit was ok. DD stirring and just easily turning to feed was good. It was me that couldn't relax, so I transferred her to crib at 6am for a successful...HOUR! Grin Will check out that site.

Apart from the shape of the pram bassinet vs shape of the next2me, no idea why she will sleep in one but not the other. Perhaps a moses basket, try to get a similar shape to the pram something a bit more enclosed. Definitely won't be as costly as the next2me!

Sleepyhead

teaandbiscuitsforme · 13/04/2018 18:59

I don't sleep with my arm under my head when I'm in with DS. I put it out straight so that it is in between me and the corner of my pillow. Obviously no pillows is one of the guidelines but I can't sleep like that so I've tried to minimise the risk by making sure the pillow is well behind me and then my arm is between it and DS.

Sleepyhead or Purflo nest (cheaper version of a sleepyhead) might be worth a try. Or a towel in a horseshoe shape under the sheet. Might help recreate the cocooned feeling she gets from the Pram?

Sleepyheads are on the 'too avoid' list from the lullaby trust. Research suggests they raise risk of SIDS. Think this is pretty recent.

@whining do you have a link please?

mountaingirl220 · 13/04/2018 20:21

I used a sleepyhead from 10 months old. As for a cot, mine hated it too. He went in at 10 months with the sleepyhead. However, before that I used a small side sleeper crib on rollers with the side down next to me. Worked really well. It is a third the size of a cot and he could see me, so he slept loads better.

@GeminiWarrior
Hope this works - I'm a bit inept with links on my phone! It's on page 5. I initially read it via a friend who is a neo-natal consultant.
