Weaning 9 month from nighttime feeds

As the title says, we are planning to wean my LG from her night feeds as I really do think my they are from habit, rather than hunger.

She currently wakes about 12/1am and we give her 5oz. Occasionally she will also wake around 5am for the same.

The plan is to feed her watered down milk over next few nights (1 scoop less per night) and do cuddle to soothe for any secondary wakes.

Once the first wake has gone, we will do cuddle to soothe only.

Thoughts? Any suggestions for a better way?

I wouldn't feed her watered down milk (I don't think that's recommend as they aren't getting the full nutrients from the milk) but instead cut the feed down to 4oz, and then 3oz etc.

Or alternatively cut the milk out all together. Give your DD a sip of water instead. Hopefully she will eventually realise she isn't getting milk and break the habit.

You can’t just water down formula it can cause an upset tummy. You can either give less oz bottle or give water or a combination of both. I’ve generally found babies lose feeds when they are ready though if I’m honest

Why cant you give watered down milk in 1 feed? You can offer a cup of water from 6 months?

I watered down the night feed gradually and it worked and then shh pat if they woke. It worked.

My dc was around 9 months and weaned fairly well.

spoony, that’s reassuring to hear! How many nights did it take? Any tips?

@xamyrose - we went cold turkey on milk last night and she was fine. 30 min of cuddles and singing and she was back to sleep. Woke later but self settled!
