Shall I wake my baby to feed him?

We had our first jabs today. He's been asleep since 3. Woke up at 7 for a short feed and a dose of calpol. Should I wake him now and give him a good feed? He's not usually a good sleeper so I've never had this issue! I'm very tempted to catch up on my zzzs and feed him whenever he wakes!

Feed him when he wakes!

Givemeabreak01 · 11/04/2018 21:17

No no no.... Go by the motto of never wake a sleeping baby....!

He will wake when he’s hungry just get your head down yourself!!

mehhh · 11/04/2018 21:19

Get some rest!! X

PinkAvocado · 11/04/2018 21:22

I’m sure you have but have you checked his temperature?

MyOtherUserNameIsAUnicorn · 11/04/2018 21:26

Pink Avo- yes, he is fine temperature wise. It's just so out of character for him to be so quiet and docile, it's freaking me out a bit. I think I may have just got myself worked up about jabs- I was expected a hell of a night.

Fingers crossed- he could wake up and I could still have my hideous night!!

First night mine slept ‘through’ which was really only six hours. But about 5.5 more than usual.

dontquotemeondailymail · 11/04/2018 21:28

I really worked myself up about first jabs but my little boy didn't have any reaction at all! Total anti-climax - in a good way of course!!

If his temp is ok, definitely let him sleep though and enjoy the peace.

Rogue1234 · 11/04/2018 21:34

My DS was a terrible sleeper to begin with - DP and I slept in shifts for the first 8 weeks.

The night of his first jabs he slept through the night (of course I didn't, I kept waking up wondering why the hell he was still asleep and checking he was still breathing!). Barring illness, he's slept 8+ hours a night ever since.

As long as his temperature is still fine, take advantage and get some sleep yourself!

MyOtherUserNameIsAUnicorn · 11/04/2018 21:39

Oh my Rogue! I'm excited now. What if this is him becoming a good sleeper?
Too excited thinking about sleep to actually sleep

my DD did this the night of her first jabs. First decent nights sleep I had since she was born.

Sadly she was back to normal the day after. I very eagerly awaited her next set of jabs thinking the same would happen. It didn't.

She didn't sleep through again until she was 8 months old Sad

fingers crossed for you OP Grin

twinkledag · 11/04/2018 21:47

Ahhh that loooong sleep they have when they have their first jabs! Mine slept 11pm-5am, it was bliss! Still remember it now and he's 3! Smile

Ubercornsdiscoball · 11/04/2018 21:49

If temperature is ok and you are happy with your child then let them sleep and you get some rest too! Mine never got the memo about sleeping but maybe yours will!!

Rogue1234 · 12/04/2018 08:58

Did you manage to get a good night's sleep OP? Hoping your LO is more like mine than pasta's when it comes to sleep!

longtompot · 12/04/2018 09:14

The only time I have woken a sleeping baby to feed was on doctors orders as she was prem and needed to gain weight. Other than that, if the baby sleeps, let the baby sleep. I hope, through your excitement, you managed to get a good nights sleep.

MyOtherUserNameIsAUnicorn · 12/04/2018 11:11

We slept so much! It was lovely! He seems fine today too so glad I let him sleep through feeling a bit rubbish after jabs! Thank you all for reassuring me!

Just to add that I went with the "never wake a sleeping baby" when ds1 was newborn and it led to jaundice and failure to thrive because he was a lazy breast feeder and by 3 weeks didn't have the energy to wake and cry for a feed. Once he switched to bottles he was fine and slept for 3-4hrs max

If it's a one off, or an older baby or they're producing loads of wet nappies and putting on weight then fine.

There's always one isn't there who comes up with a really extreme example of following a piece of advice to extreme lengths which none with an iota of common sense would do.does my 'ed In ok

Well, posting unnecessarily unkind things to someone who followed advice as an inexperienced new mother does my 'ed in. Why on earth be so unpleasant, for no reason? Does it make you feel big and clever? Because I assure you, it makes you look the reverse.

Bumply, it's kind of you to be concerned in case someone else makes a similar mistake. Which I suspect a lot of people probably do.
