I am sooooooo tired! DS3 has gone back to newborn feeding of every few hours at night the last couple of weeks.

Last night he fed at 9pm, 10pm (dream feed, midnight, 3am and 7am.

During the day he is easily distracted and far too busy watching what everyone is doing.

So, I'm going to get tough and stop breastfeeding at night and give a cup of water and limited cuddles instead. Has anyone else gone cold turkey? My gut feeling is that this is the best way for him because when I have tried to cut down before he just got very cross with me and I'd rather get the whole horrible crying bit over with quickly. Is going cold turkey cruel though?

I'll still get him out of the cot, but not overfuss him.

Sorry, that was unclear, I meant that the 10pm feed was a dream-feed (as I had so much milk and didn't want to become engorged)

how old is ds?

Oh hello Cruisemum1 - you helped me before, do you remember? I was attempting half-hearted controlled crying (staying in the room).

Actually, after posting this DS developed a temperature and was off colour for a couple of days, and now seems to be teething. So, no wonder the poor little chap was wakeful.

I hope your DC is sleeping well!

crayon - we're been doing it for a few days - my little one was doing similar to yours (12am, 3am, 5am) but things are loads better after a few days. i think i'm becoming evangelistic about it! see thread on 'need to stop...' good luck

we didnt pick her up unless she was really crying hard and tried`tp put her down asap again. my little one gets angrier the closer she gets to\food tho.

Thanks Chocolatte, glad it is working for you.

We plan to start this week-end if he is well and not teething.

About to search your other thread now.

We found that the dream feed didnt really work for us - even if we properly woke her up she didnt take much food and actually woke up more than if she had been left. All dream feed did was teach her to wake up an extra time. I know it works for lots of people though. How old is your ds? I think the gurus reckon you should stop dream feed at about 4/5 months???? WHat do they know tho!!! I think my lo is sleeping better now that she has dropped her 12am feed.

I don't normally dream-feed actually (well, I did for the first couple of months, but not since then) - just did it because he had not had much during the day and I was engorged and worried I'd be in too much discomfort to sleep! It was quicker than getting the breast pump down from the attic!

It looks as though I will have to do a bit of work on getting him to self settle again though as I have been lazy recently and had to stay by his cot just now. He goes off OK if he is very sleepy, but not very easily when he is awake.

DS3 is nearly 9 months.

when my ds was teething really badly my doctor prescribed phenergan to help him sleep. just an idea.
