Night weaning

Hi all,

My baby is just over 9 months old and he has just had his routine health visitor check up. She is happy he is comfortably meeting all milestones, his weight is where it should be etc. She is happy with his milk and solids intake throughout the day

My only "issue" (not really the correct word) is that my little one is still waking 2-3 times a night for a feed. He is only drinking 1-2oz before nodding back off. HV has suggested going cold turkey with the night feeds as he doesn't need them and is possibly waking out of habit and using milk to soothe to sleep.

She suggested giving water (I've tried this) or sushing/parting him back to sleep.

Does anyone out there have any night weaning tips and/or success stories?

Thanks!

I'd start with separating feeding and sleeping at bedtime and nap time. So feed at least half an hour before starting to settle him. That means you develop an alternate way to get him to sleep that never involves feeding.

Carry this method through to night wakes and he'll stop automatically expecting milk just to get to sleep.

I'm concerned feeding him early will result in overnight hunger!

I'm prepared to try anything though.

Fingers crossed tonight works out... hopefully he'll not take too long to get used to the routine!

Update: fed LO bottle around 30 mins before bed then stroked his face to get him to sleep.

Woke up at 10. Took me 30 mins of cuddling/back rubbing to get him back to sleep but he was really hysterical until I picked him up

4:15 he woke and I gave him a bottle but he's still asleep now!

Hopefully a few nights of dropping first feed will be cone routine and I can then address the later feed!
