Toddler bed- do I need a guard?

Thinking of moving DD to a toddler bed soon (well her cotbed converts so more taking the sides off). She's 2.5. It will be head-end against the wall if that makes sense, so both sides will be open. Toddler beds are fairly low to be floor and obviously she needs to learn to stay put at some point. Did you use bed guards for your little ones or just leave them to it in a toddler bed? She doesn't move too much in her sleep and I usually tuck the duvet down one side anyway.

I used one but then I had a very wriggly toddler. I would put something soft on the floor for the first few nights, just in case.

That's what I was thinking. Then will she just get used to being in a bed? I never find her agains the cot bars or anything so don't think she's a massive wriggler.

DD went into a full size bed at 18 months. Never had a guard. It was higher than most due to having another bed underneath it (we pulled it out in case she fell out of bed but she never did).

Another with no bed guard. Full size single at 20 months but we put the cot mattress on the floor for falls.

I've used a guard when they've went straight to a full size bed but I never bothered with one for a toddler bed.

Get a pool noodle and put it under the bed sheet. I found this far more effective than a guard as dd once fell in between the bed & guard and got stuck! 😳🙄

We never had one for the toddler bed as he was pretty low to the ground. He rarely fell out so when we moved to a single bed we don’t have one. What I did do was stick a rolled up double duvet between the bed and the wall to seal off the gap there that the bedframe makes. But I think you said you wont have that issue
