Sleep is all over with baby!

So....

My little one has been a fairly poor sleeper since around four months old.

From four months, he started waking twice a night. This went on for quite a while, until around 7 months. Things got better and he went down to once a night.

Then he turned eight months old and went through a two week phase of waking EVERY hour. Once that passed he was amazing and went to once a night.

Then the last few nights, we struggled getting him to sleep. I put it down to the clock change (lighter nights) and pushed his bedtime back last night. This work great and he went off to sleep no problem. The only issue is, the last few nights he is back to waking 3 times a night!

Is this another phase? He is drinking more milk during the night that usual too!

We follow a good bedtime and nap routine...

He's 9 month old, eats 3 meals and drinks approx 24oz milk throughout the day (final bottle is at bedtime)

I think their sleep is up and down for the 1st year. Regressions, growth spurts etc. My 5 month old was previously very good, now horrendous Sad it will pass (I hope)

crazycatlady5 · 29/03/2018 11:08

My 14 month old woke hourly for the entire first year. She now wakes once. Hang in there.

beckieperk · 29/03/2018 21:07

Teething?

gleeba · 30/03/2018 06:49

We're back to three times a night 😩

When I go to the bedroom, he's kneeling and pulling himself up to the side of his cot. It's like he wants to practice his new skills 24/7 😂

Sorry op I’m no help. My toddler is still keeping me awake and I’m exhausted. I’ve heard it can go on until 2 Shock some children seem to sleep a lot better than others

Saz1995 · 30/03/2018 06:56

I have a 7 1/2 month old son and I'm going through the same at the moment, he's always been a really good sleeper up until now haha

newcupcake · 30/03/2018 07:25

7 month old here , 3 wake ups is a good night - last night was 6 !! She is my third so I can vouch for the general consensus that babies sleep is unpredictable and frequently crap for the first year then is settles down

PasstheStarmix · 30/03/2018 07:30

‘babies sleep is unpredictable and frequently crap for the first year then is settles down’

My dc is over I’ve and sleep is still crap Sad

PasstheStarmix · 30/03/2018 07:30

over one *

PasstheStarmix · 30/03/2018 07:30

I’ve heard 18 months is when things get better...I need hope

ElfEars · 30/03/2018 07:40

It's rubbish but completely normal. My DS still wakes atleast once a night at 14 months. The Wonder Weeks app is really accurate at telling you when the next regression will be.

welshweasel · 30/03/2018 07:47

It’s normal for their sleep to go to pot when they’re learning to stand/crawl/walk. You need to make them realise they need to be lying down to sleep. Lie them down, form hand on back/chest until they go to sleep. You may have to repeat this many times but eventually they get it and often this is the last major regression.

rocketgirl22 · 30/03/2018 07:51

By three years old most children are sleeping through

tootiredforeverything · 30/03/2018 07:53

Could it be teething? Between 8 and 9 months old our previously terrible sleeper suddenly started sleeping through. Only things like colds, teething, ear infections seem to really bother her now. She is ten months now and teething really badly so has been up throughout the night this week and when I go in, it's as you described... kneeling, wide awake etc. Also I think there is a growth spurt from 9-11 months, which could also be contributing to both our problems! I would suggest you stop feeding in the night. Your baby won't need this milk if he eats and drinks well during the day, and it will be reinforcing the habitual night waking.

PasstheStarmix · 30/03/2018 07:57

@rocketgirl22 3!?? You mean I could potentially have almost another 2 years of this. Shock

gleeba · 30/03/2018 14:00

I'm hoping it's just a phase now he's practising his new skills!

Hopefully it is gleeba but I must say they certainly do have a lot of phases. Ds seems to have one every time he ages a month! It’s constant Shock
