Bedtime routine was - in cot, classic fm on, asleep within 5-10 mins

Now at 18 mths DC climbs out!

We have a toddler bed but I am struggling to get him to stay in that either

Any suggestions welcomed!!!

Can you put a gate on door so he stays in room. Keep classic fm on and just leave him?

We did baby gate (still in place @ 2.5yo) and mattress on the floor and otherwise kept everything the same. Pop in and out and tuck in with minimal fuss if roaming. Or if they are unstoppable then let them fall asleep on the floor... won't happen too often!

Following as I have no suggestions. I have tried Baby gate and same routine. My dad has figured out how to open it and the safety catch so just comes it. I’ve been having to lie with her until she falls asleep. Never had to before. Good luck. Xx

Oh, a light goose down duvet and flattish pillow made it all v snuggly and comfy, obv you must ensure safety however and don't forget to check blind cords, bolt bookcases to walls etc now that you have a different situation!

DS2 only did this the first night. He kept poor DD up until 10 on a school night! After that he'd wander about the room, but always fall asleep in bed.

Routine was bath, pyjamas, story, bf, sleep.

Lainey, I'd cable tie the gate and step over it or get one she cannot open. I started that lying down thing with DS when we had visitors with a baby staying (for about a week) and I was v aware of not disturbing her. It took ages to get out of it then and get back to a child who was content with repeated goodnight visits.

Do you have a relaxing bedtime routine in place? Ours takes about an hour from dinner. Lots of cuddles watching night garden, then some books. A nice bath, then a massage with lavender cream (baby suitable). I feed to sleep but you could equally cuddle to sleep. Sounds like baby hasn’t wound down enough, so basically locking them in the room is a bit harsh.

Thanks everyone

I will try the more soothing bedtime routine

Last night I shut doors so he only had one room and the landing to roam
He did eventually go to sleep in bed
