Toddler sleeping arrangements and moving house

We are due to move in a couple of weeks and this means DD 18 months will have her own bedroom, she's currently in our room.
We have been offered a double bed which would fit in DD room, but am I crazy to think I will be able to go from her sleeping in a cot in our room to a bed in her own room. Obviously I will get a bed guard to stop her from falling out

Can you not keep her in the cot in her own room? 18 months is young to be in a bed if she sleeps just fine in the cot.

We moved my DS before he was 2 as he could climb out of his cot. We don’t have a double bed for him, but friends do for their toddlers and it doesn’t seem to make much difference

I don’t see why it would be crazy - lots of people go straight to floor beds.

It really depends... my DD went into a double at that age and slept really well. It’s good when she’s unsettled in the night (feeling poorly, bad dream, etc) as you can just climb in beside and go back to sleep! But she wasn’t one for bouncing somersaults in the night. I can see how it might be chaos for a more energetic child!

She sleeps perfect in her cot, I think I'm just worrying about the house move, combined with her own bedroom and away from her cot.
I dont think the be room would fit a cot and the bed in, but if we took the bed it would save us needing to buy her one

I would keep her in her own cot initially her world will be massively changed from her perspective! Can you not store the bed on its side for a while?

phishcakes · 26/03/2018 10:02

I'd give it a try. It might be that it helps for her to have a whole fresh start with a new room and bed. If not surely you can just go back to putting her in a cot a try again when she's older?

Not quite the same situation, but with two of my children, we've moved house and that has been the transition from cosleeping to being in their own room. They were both around 1 at the time of the moves, and both went pretty much from cosleeping and breastfeeding through the night, to sleeping on their own in their cots straight off. It was almost like they knew it was a new house so different rules. I'd definitely give the bed a go!

I think I'll give the bed a try. I mean whats the worst that could happen? I can cope with a bit of disturbed sleep, hopefully

I can only give the opposite a friend did this and their toddler went from sleeping through to being on her bed for the next 6 years...
