Hi everyone I really need some support here I have a 9 month old DS who has never been a good sleeper. He naps for 30-45 mins a time and at night I am lucky if he goes 3 hours without waking, in fact I nearly threw a party the other night when he slept for 4 and a half hours without waking!! I have now given up on the cot and I co sleep with him while my dh sleeps in the spare room as this seems to settle him faster when he does wake up and now I am back in work I need all the rest I can get.

Anyway I feel like I am going insane because it seems that all of my friends and work colleagues babys were sleeping through at his age and if one more person says "oh is he still not sleeping through" with the sympathetic head tilt I will scream! Please tell me I am not alone and that he is not the only child that doesnt sleep through at 9 months!!

Hi, my DD is a little younger at 6 months, but other than that is pretty much the same! She fights every nap and when she does eventually go down it generally only lasts 30 minutes (occasionally a bit longer). She's up every 2-3 hours in the night and mostly co-sleeps as I'm breastfeeding and it's easier to feed her to sleep than get out of bed and rock her to sleep.

I can't be bothered to go to baby groups and see everyone with their magic babies who just fall asleep on them when DD has to have white noise, blackout curtains, a story, rocking and the planets to be in alignment before she will grace me with a nap.

I feel you with the sympathetic head tilt!! Then they say 'Have you tried...' and yes I have. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING!

My child doesn’t sleep through the night every night and he’s 3.5. He still wakes up and wants me occasionally because he’s scared/confused/poorly/got himself at the other end of the bed and apparently can’t find his way back without me. I just get into bed with him and go to sleep now. He ‘slept through’ as in from 8pm until 6pm a couple of times at about 11 months and was getting better, but got poorly a few times around 1 so started feeding at night more again (he wasn’t eating much so upped milk again) and then he wanted feeding at night until he was about 20 months when I knocked it on the head and only gave him water if he woke up, and when he furiously rejected that I’d just cuddle him and sing while he screamed in my face. After a few days of not getting milk in the middle of the night he did stop drinking overnight and never even wanted water unless he had a cough. But there are so so many reasons for a young child to wake up and want a parent. I’d expect to feed an up to 1 year old at night but you could probably try and offer water at night instead once they eat proper meals in the day and have a good drink of milk (breast formula or cows milk over 1) and see if that helps. I’ve never sleep trained so always went to DS if he cried, I just stopped the huge amounts of milk he was drinking at 2am when he really didn’t need it. I’m pregnant with DS2 and again I expect feeding at night to be anything up to a year and waking at night to be longer. I’d probably not wait until over 20 months to night wean anyway!

I definitely do not have a magical “going to sleep drowsy but awake in the cot and not rousing again until 7.30” baby, you are not alone! My 11 month old wakes at least every 2 hours and I bf him back to sleep. I’m bloody knackered Sad

I have his cot side carred to mine like an arms reach cosleeper. I tried putting the side back on in the hopes that a bit of distance would help him sleep, but instead he tossed and turned so much and hurt himself loads on the bars=more crying/less sleeping for the past three nights. So he’s back to being attached to my bed. sigh

None of my DC slept as babies
Currently have DC3 who is 5 Months old that is still up 4/5 times a night
I’ve also tried everything , every gadget / white noise / sleepyhead / sleeping bag /

My bedtime routine is excellent , I sadly / desperately watched these smug mums on Facebook who make these “ baby bedtime routine “ videos and I’m sitting thinking “ but I do all these bloody things “
Like warm bath , gentle voice , dried and into sleepsuit , warm bottle then bed

You would think by 3rd child I would have had a bit of luck but no

I’m extremely sick of hearing of others who’s babies sleep through
It’s very very unfair when I feel like I’ve tried absolutely everything and my routine is spot on

I’m on my knees and was actually sobbing this morning which is v v unlike me but I think it’s just the unfairness of it all and still having to get up and get other kids washed / dressed / school run / make myself presentable whilst feeling so utterly utterly exhausted

My other kids didn’t sleep through til age 2 so this is going to be another long haul by the looks of it

14 month old who doesn’t sleep. I also have an excellent bedtime routine which worked for her DS but DD2 is having none of it. I’m exhausted now to the point that I’m constantly ill with one thing or another. No idea where we’re going wrong but hoping she’ll grow out of it soon.

Probably not much help here as my little one is a lot younger (3 weeks) but can nap up to 5 hours in the day to the point I have to wake him to feed, then as soon as it gets to midnight bam up every 1.5 hours on the dot screaming for milk. He is hard to settle as won't burp, as soon as I get up in the morning around 7.30 and change feed him he does about 5 burps in one go (by himself) and is pretty much out for the count. We've tried pretty much everything and if one more person says 'it will get better' then I'm Going to scream. Sorry for the rant Sad
