DREAM FEED ADVICE 8 weeks

AmandaP86x · 08/03/2018 06:18

Hi

My DS was sleeping from 9/10 until 2/3 and then again until 7/8.

I looked up dream feeding and thought if I did this about 11/12 it would cut the overnight feed out.

He took 3 oz at 1130 (dream fed) then woke up crying for a feed at 3 and then again at 6 🙈 surely the DF hasnt caused this? Is he perhaps a having a growth spurt and it's just coincidence it's fell when Iv brought in something new?

Any advice would be helpful! Don't know wether to try again tonight or leave it

The dreamfeed doesn’t always work, he’s still so tiny I would just respond to his needs and feed on demand.

I never really understood the dream feed but I know it seems to work for some people. If it does work by cutting out a night feed for a while then surely there comes a point when you want to stop the dream feed and do they not then start waking up during the night again for a feed? I didn't bother with it for either of mine and they slowly started doing longer stretches during the night around 2 or 3 months.

I think 8 weeks might be a little early to start trying to manipulate feeding.

I introduced a dreamfeed for DD at around 14 weeks and it worked really well for us. I'd feed her at 11/12 then she would sleep until around 6:30 or 7.

I liked that it meant I could go out to friends' for the evening, feed her and put her to bed at their house at 7, enjoy an evening with friends and then take her home at 11ish and because she was used to being woken at this time she'd settle back to sleep easily.

I stopped the dreamfeed recently, at 9 months, and around 85% of the time she will now go 7pm until 6:30am without a feed. However, when she wants a night feed I choose not to withhold it.

Dream feed has always worked for me, but 8 weeks is still very young so I would just feed him every time he wants a feed and make sure he doesn't go over every 3 to 4 hours. It will all eventually fall into place.

Dream feed didn't work for me, DD would wake for a feed at 2/3am regardless. 8 weeks seems too young to be trying to space out feedings, DD was still feeding every 2/3 hours at that age. You're lucky your baby sleeps so well, I would make the most of it for just now as there are lots of ups and downs to come.

DONT DO IT!! That's my experience anyway!! My DS used to sleep 7- 1 feed then till 4 feed again the wake at 6:30. I listened to too many people and introduced a dream feed at 10pm to try and drop the 1am feed. It worked for 2 nights then it just introduced another feed so he was now waking 3 times a night for a feed. We are now 4 months on and he still wakes at 9-10 for a feed and I blame myself for trying to dream feed him as it introduced a habitual walk up.
But I also know people who dream feed and it works wonders. But my experience isn't positive
