Taking a dummy away from 2.5 year old

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone will get to read this but we decided to take our little boy's dummy away last week. He's 2.5, and loved his dummy, we were mostly there with limiting it to sleep only but he would often try and find one to have at anytime. It started getting to the point where nearly every night he was waking, for what seemed like no reason. We took them away (the dummy fairy came) and we expected massive tantrums and sleepless nights. I wanted to post this to reassure parents that it can be a surprise, and whilst he whinged/cried/shouted for the first 10 minutes going to bed we've not heard anything from him and it's now been 5 days. No more waking in the night and tantrums wanting a dummy when we say no. We took our other son's away when he was 3 and he did cry going to bed the first few nights but by day 5 no tears at bedtime at all and again he's so much better since. I think making them feel like they are now 'big' and not babies etc makes them feel proud too. 😊
