Is it okay for a 2.5 year old to sleep in a double bed?

We're thinking of moving our dd to our old double bed as my partner and I would like a kingsize bed. Dd's cot will soon be needed for a new baby and it seems a shame to throw out a perfectly good oak bed.

Being a bit of a neurotic, I'm a bit worried however that the double bed is a bit too big and high for dd, who will be two and a half at the time. I worry about her getting caught up in big sheets and blankets, or falling out. (dp as usual thinks I'm being a nutter!)I'd obviously get one of those bed guards, and probably get her a new mattress too. Has anyone got any experience of this?

You could just use a single/kids duvet to stop the tangling. Sure this would be OK and if anything like my DC would enjoy the space for thrashing around at night

Thanks for sharing. Like the sound of using a light single duvet on a double bed, though a thin double would be fine I'm sure - though I suspect I'll be using grobags for as long as humanly possible! Do they make them bigger than 3, or is there any other alternative?

If I remember correctly my boy refused to use a grobag after 2.6 because after a long hot summer of sleeping with nothing but a sheet (was so warm in his room) there was no way he was going back in one of those.

Double bed sounds fab. How easy would that be for those "mummy I've had a bad dream" times - take him back to bed, get in alongside, then get out again when he's asleep.

Also great for when dp's snoring has reached deafening proportions. More I think of it, better it sounds....
