10wk old sleep patterns

I'm a first timer so have no idea what to expect from baby's sleep. I'm hoping someone more experienced can help me figure it out!

10wk baby is now sleeping for a good stretch every night (from 6-8hrs normally). The long sleep normally starts around 10-11pm, after a good feed (breast, then formula top up). After her first wake up, she usually goes back to sleep and she's properly awake for the day between 9 and 10 each morning. Good nap/wake pattern through the day. She tends to have a wakeful period in the evening that lasts until bedtime.

We've been introducing night/day activities to help her understand the difference eg curtains open/shut, playtimes and games during the day, dim lights/bath in the evening. Should we be doing anything at this stage to bring her bedtime earlier? If so, how do we do it?

I can’t offer much advice but personally I found my babies found their own sleep patterns, even though the changed a lot in the first year.
I am a big fan of bath, feed, lights off at 7.30am. If they wake after this time...quiet, keep lights off and feed again, back to bed.
Both of my babies were regular wakers until weaning was established.

Thanks wetwashing

Does this mean that you went to bed at 7.30 as well? I know the safe sleeping guidelines are for baby to be in the same room, so I assume making an earlier bedtime will apply for me as well for a while.

I wouldn’t worry about doing anything else, it sounds as though what you are doing works fine, and tbh id say at 10 weeks that’s a great sleep pattern and you’re really lucky. Especially if day time naps are good aswell.

She’s still very young and it’s normal for her bedtime to be later. As she gets older , consolidates sleep and naps less during the day it will edge earlier and earlier. DS is 8 months and has been reliably going to bed at 7 since about 5 months, but from reading on here that’s quite early to do that. However I was totally led by him and always have been. In terms of not being in the same room that’s a personal choice that only you can make. SIDS guidelines do advise that you should be in same room as baby for all sleeps till 6 months, however they are guidelines. It’s entirelt up to you and how comfortable you feel with it. For us DS will only settle to sleep in a pitch black room with white noise playing, us being in the room disturbes him. We only have a small flat currently and I have a video monitor which I check regularly and I also go in and check aswell.

I put my babies to bed in the Moses basket in my room, if I wanted to stay up I would use a baby monitor so I could hear them wake.
Then I co-slept in my bed when they woke for a feed.
But for the record I was in bed by 8.30/9pm
Most nights in the beginning too.

Thank you both - much appreciated!
