Help transitioning from bedside crib to cot - DS hates being lowered

So since DS was born hes hated being lowered into anything asleep. He bolts awake screaming. We switched from a moses to a bedside crib where I move him sideways with a tiny lift into a sleepyhead.

Hes soon to grow out of the crib so we need to put him in the cot in the nursery. I tried with naps yesterday which took maybe 20 attempts before he slept exhausted for 20min leaving me with an overtired baby. I tried lastnight to lower him into the crib but the same happened....

Any tips or just perseverance??

How old is he?

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 10:33

Sorry hes 4 months old. We are living off 45-60min sleeps atm for 7 weeks so maybe not the best time to try even??

So cot is on highest setting still at the moment? What of you lean over so he's tight to v your body until he's on the mattress?

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 10:37

Yeah it is. I did try that yesterday even while rocking him but he senses me leaning Hmm

Put the cot side down, slide him in then side back up?

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 10:41

Babies are like this, you just have to accept it.
My 3 month old is the same. I co-sleep safely for this reason! Also, the cot should be in your room until he’s six months old.
Have you tried a dummy? That might give him something else to focus on rather than the fact you’re letting go do him.
My baby is my third child and they all napped on me/in the buggy for the first six months. Young babies just like to be held... there’s nothing “wrong” with your baby.
One tip you can try though is to warm up the cot with a hot water bottle so he doesn’t notice the transition as much ... and lower your body in as far as you possibly can when putting him down

Sorry if that sounded like a lecture.. I am trying to be helpful!

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 10:54

okay doke. We are intending to keep him with us for another 8 weeks if possible but i am trying to get ahead of the game by getting him to learn how to be put down before the big move

I don't think they sell drop sided cots anymore anyway OP.

Could you swaddle him?

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 11:02

He hates being swaddled...God we sound awkward

I plan on moving DS son soon and was going to let him fall asleep in his sleepy head then move that into the cot when he's asleep until he gets used to it, could you do that if you already have a sleepyhead?

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 11:29

Hmm i could try i guess!

Do you have space to sidecar your cot? Google it for instructions. Something like this

Possibly....although DH is in two minds about how long DS should be in with us.....maybe another conversation

OP posts:
Lemondrop99 · 06/02/2018 14:50

Well when DH is the one breastfeeding all night long then he gets to decide...... Wink

We just set up a similar arrangement as my DS is also outgrowing his Next 2 Me crib. I still plan to move him at 6 months. However after the last 3 nights, I'll be damned if I'm traipsing up and down the corridor several times a night. Waking multiple times is bad enough without having to get out of bed. If DS isn't down to 2 reliable night feeds maximum (ideally 1) by 6 months, he'll be staying where his is for my sanity.

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2018 15:05

@Lemondrop99 i couldnt agree more. DS is waking constantly so sod that. My friend said she slept on the nursery floor to survive....
