When/how often do you change baby nappy in the night (3months old)

DS is now on size 3 nappies which apparently can last 12 hours. He still wakes for feeds 3x+ a night. Previously I would change him every feed in between swapping breasts and give him some gripe water.

Do people not bother changing at this age? Btw I dont mean poo's -i obviously change for those

I didn't change unless it was a poo nappy

Littlejammy · 14/01/2018 14:47

I don’t change unless poo. Too much stimulation.

Midnightpony · 14/01/2018 14:48

Neither do I . Glad I'm not the only one!

Fluteytootey · 14/01/2018 14:50

I do don't change nappies in the night either!

userabcname · 14/01/2018 15:02

Unless it's leaked or dirty there is no need to change.

AutumnalTed · 14/01/2018 15:08

I don’t bother changing unless leaked, or poo obviously. Would just keep him awake!

Jellybabie3 · 14/01/2018 15:17

Huh ok. Thanks!!

You stick to 2-3hours in the day?

OP posts:
ButtMuncher · 14/01/2018 15:19

2-3 hours in the day sure, but unless it's super wet or there is nappy rash/skin conditions I might even let it go longer.

In the night I wouldn't change unless leaked or dirty, or unless DS was fully awake already.

missmorleyme · 14/01/2018 15:20

I didn't change unless it was fit too bursting or full or a poo nappy, otherwise they would b constantly getting disturbed when there was no reason to

Oly5 · 14/01/2018 15:20

Only change poos at night unless baby is wide awake

Jellybabie3 · 14/01/2018 15:35

So feed and back down. Ok

HabbyHadno · 14/01/2018 16:56

Same here, I changed it every time they woke with my first and this time round with the second never change at night unless there's poo.

Jellybabie3 · 14/01/2018 17:09

Ok thanks. Gonna be tricky as i will still need to give him the gripe else he wakes up writhing with wind! I usually do this in the nursery with a bum change so i guess i will need to do this on our room with minimal lighting Hmm

same here. baby now 3.5 months. since about 1 month I have only changed in night if baby had obviously pood or had leaked. otherwise disturb as little as possible and put back to bed.

during day perhaps change every 3 hours unless again an obvious poo (as ds's tend to be leaky) or very wet/leaky or sore bottom. have been known to go longer if ds is happy/asleep and just change at the next suitable opportunity.

sleepycat13 · 14/01/2018 17:14

I have a touch lamp on my bedside table. got it for about 15 quid from amazon. it has 3 brightness settings and being touch is very easy to flick on at night. I tend to flick light on the dimmest settings during feeds that way I can see what I'm doing and also give any gripe water etc whilst still in bed (ds in crib beside bed). it's dim enough to not disturb dh or ds too much but means I'm not fumbling about and I can stay in bed.

TheLionQueen1 · 14/01/2018 17:14

My DS is 3 months and if I don't change him at night then he gets wet through, he wakes at 1 and 5 and gets a chance both times but I don't turn the light on I just use the torch on my phone and do it before the feed!

TheLionQueen1 · 14/01/2018 17:15

*change not chance!

xXKXx · 14/01/2018 17:17

I change 1-2 times during the night

Jellybabie3 · 14/01/2018 18:42

My only 'concern' is i usually feed one side then change him which wakes him up to feed the other side. I left him in his nappy last night and he woke not long after his feed so i wondered if he was still hungry because i wasnt able to wake him enough to feed both sides. Any tricks?

In the day when nappy feels fullish or at convenient points in a day out (before leaving home, when at cafe for lunch etc).
Not in the night unless it seemed urgent. Last DC didn't pee much in the night anyway.

sleepycat13 · 14/01/2018 21:30

@Jellybabie3 if waking him with a change to complete feed works for you both then no need to stop doing this. but if you find you don't need to feed the other side or can just swap him over perhaps with an ear tickle or something then you.could skip the nappy change. just do what works best for you though.

actino · 15/01/2018 06:10

Feed, change, feed. She's 10 weeks and we've only had a handful of wet-only nappies, she poos like 5x a day.

OliviaTheFox · 15/01/2018 06:19

Ds is 2 months I change twice in the night. Because I noticed early mornings - 3:30ish he’s fidgety and changing nappy at 2am feed stops that. He still feeds after And is back asleep within 5mins.

sunbird17 · 15/01/2018 06:21

DS (3 months) gets a clean nappy after his bath at 6pm. He gets fed at 9pm, midnight, 3am and then gets up at 6am. I change his nappy just before the midnight feed, then he feeds back to sleep.

However the last 2 nights he has cried during the midnight change. I'm thinking of changing him at the 9pm feed and leaving it on until morning.
